From Gion to City Hall, it usually takes about 20 minutes on foot. That distance, slowly… walking,… goes around once. That’s the feel. Wow. The road is stopped, one lane. Even in Kyoto city,… the entertainment district’s… roads only have one lane,… that one lane is one-way. That one lane… completely… is for this procession. Traffic is stopped. It’s quite long. It’s hot, so the kids have parasols. Wow, seeing this really makes you feel like the Gion Festival… has really begun. Today,… besides these welcome lanterns, there’s also the Mikoshi-arai (shrine palanquin washing). I’ll make a video of that today too, so please look forward to it. Wow, amazing. The welcoming lanterns are, you see, …a way to invite the gods to the Gion Matsuri… …to say, “Please come down here,” and “Please feel safe coming down here”… …it’s a ritual to welcome the gods.
