It’s a $44 long-distance ferry. Let’s travel from Sendai to Tomakomai. Enjoy a low-priced ferry trip. Hello! This is Nakano-Sakae Station in Sendai. It is 19 minutes from Sendai Station and costs $2. From here, I will take a bus to Sendai Port. The bus departs at 6:16 p.m. However, the bus was delayed by 20 minutes due to traffic congestion. Let’s take a look at the ferry route. Departing from Sendai Port at 7:40 p.m. Arriving at Tomakomai Port at 11:00 a.m. Here we are at Sendai Port. This is the ferry terminal in the evening. If you make a reservation online, you don’t need to go to the counter. The boarding gate is on the 2nd floor. The spacious waiting area is empty. It seems that most passengers have already boarded the ship. Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. I can see the ship I’m going to board. “Kitakami” Built in 2019, length 192.5 m Vehicles are boarding one after another. This passageway is long but has no steps and is wheelchair accessible. It connects to the 6th floor of the ship. The passenger area is on two floors, the 6th and 7th floors. My cabin is “C berth.” I booked it for $44. It is a capsule-type sleeper. Please place your shoes under the berth. My berth is on the upper left side. The internal dimensions of the berth are 200 x 73 cm. The mattress is thin and covered with a sheet. There is a towel hook and a hanger on the interior wall. There is space for luggage next to the pillow. Other facilities include lighting, electrical outlet, ventilation, and curtain. There are several air conditioner vents in the ceiling of the room. There is a window facing the sea at the end of the room. It is now 15 minutes before departure. You can exit to the external deck from the stern side of the 7th floor. The sun has already set. Several crew members are preparing for departure on the stern deck. One tugboat is waiting on the port side. The tugboat is connected to this ferry by a rope. As you can see, Sendai Port is narrow. Large ships need tugboats to change direction. It is now 7:40 p.m. The ship departed on time. The vehicle lamp is being retracted. They removed the last rope from the bollard. The ship slowly leaves the wharf while reeling in the ropes. The staff at the wharf drive away in a car. This is the starboard side of the ship. Let’s move to the port side of the ship. The tugboat is pulling this ship. The huge hull is being turned 180 degrees. Fast forward a little… The tugboat towed this ship for about three minutes. Finally, the rope connection is released. Great job! The tugboat returns to base. There are many factories and warehouses on both sides of Sendai Port. The ship navigates the harbor for a while. The external deck is on the 7th and 8th floors. When you go up to the 8th floor, the view opens up. The crescent moon hangs in the western sky. Let’s go to the restaurant on the 7th floor. The dinner buffet is $15. The restaurant is open until 8:30 p.m. I like the fried chicken and roast beef on today’s menu. The menu changes regularly depending on the season. Several dishes from Hokkaido and Sendai are also available. The sushi and desserts are also delicious. I really like the food on this ship. I have eaten too much. Let’s take a look around the ship. This is the shop on the 6th floor. There are many souvenirs from Hokkaido and Sendai. You can also buy alcohol and daily necessities here. Next to the shop is an information desk and a rest area. There are many vending machines. Water heater, microwave, and ice maker. You can also use the washing machine and dryer. The shower booths and grand bath are separate. You can use the grand bath and showers at any time during your voyage. The ship is still new, so the bathroom is very clean. The bath water is filtered and circulated, so it is always clean. It was a nice bath time. Take the elevator to the 7th floor. There are also vending machines and tea dispensers here. The interior theme of this ship is “space travel.” So this ship is a spaceship? Massage chairs cost $2. A futuristic image is projected onto the wall. And is that the universe outside the window? Part of the restaurant is open as a lounge after closing time. Let’s take a look at the other cabins. “1st-class Cabin” $100 This bunk bed has two beds arranged at right angles to each other. The bathroom has only a shower. “Economy Single” $85 This is the cheapest private room with a lock. Take the stairs from the 7th floor to the 6th floor. The kids’ corner is also designed to look like a spaceship. Even after 10:00 p.m., the ship is still lively. There are also smoking rooms and restrooms. The ship is off the coast of the Oshika Peninsula. The Scorpio constellation was clearly visible. It’s 4:00 a.m. on board the ship. The sky is already getting light. The ship is sailing off the coast of Hachinohe City. I was looking at the eastern sky for a long time. There were a few clouds, but it was a beautiful sunrise. I relaxed for a while on the ship early in the morning. After a short nap, the sun had risen a little higher. The ship is heading north along the Shimokita Peninsula You can see “Sunflower Shiretoko” in the distance. That ship is heading from Tomakomai to Oarai. You can also bring your pets on board. There is a small playground for pets on the external deck. The restaurant is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Breakfast buffet is $8. I’m happy with this low price. I am impressed by the efforts of this ferry company. I had breakfast at the table by the window, looking out at the sea. You can enjoy coffee after your meal outside the restaurant. The coast of Hokkaido is faintly visible. It’s about two hours until we arrive. After that, the ship sailed northward across the Pacific Ocean for about an hour. The cityscape of Tomakomai is coming into view. The ship’s funnel glistens in the morning sun. That is an offshore mooring facility for tankers. The ship enters Tomakomai Port. The crew members go to their respective stations. The nearby lighthouse and distant chimney are contrasting. This is a tugboat base. The navigation signal “I” means “Entry into port is permitted.” That signal flag means “Yes.” There are many ships sailing in the harbor. The ferry terminal is used by three ferry companies. A dog is taking a walk on the playground. The ship is turning 180 degrees before docking. Since the port is not as narrow as Sendai Port, a tugboat is not required. Turn completed. The crew fires a line onto the wharf. The staff on the wharf pull the line. The rope connected to the line is pulled up by a vehicle. It would be difficult to pull this rope this far using only human power. Lines are dropped one after another. The work proceeds smoothly. This is the last rope. The ship arrived on time at 11:00 a.m. The blue sky spreads out above the large ferry terminal. The ship’s funnel looks most impressive when it arrives. Let’s head back inside the ship and disembark. It seems that most of the passengers have already disembarked. Last night, many passengers were relaxing here. The fare for this cabin was very cheap. However, it was a very comfortable ferry trip. Let’s go outside the ship from the 6th floor lobby. Proceed along the long disembarkation bridge to the passageway. The passageway connects to the 2nd floor of the ferry terminal. There are shops and restaurants open. Let’s go up to the terrace on the 3rd floor. The white hull stands out against the blue sky. Thanks to “Kitakami.” There is a model of the “Sunflower Kamuy” in the terminal waiting area. Please check out my past video! The square in front of the terminal is always well maintained. From here, take a taxi or bus. The bus to Tomakomai Station departs at 11:30 a.m. After the ferry trip, the swaying of the bus feels pleasant. It’s $2 and 16 minutes to Tomakomai Station. One journey has come to an end. There is a shop and a restaurant inside the station. My next journey is about to begin. Let’s go down to the station platform. The chimney seen from the ship is also visible from here. Thank you for watching! Thanks to your support, CAPSULE JAPAN has surpassed 100,000 subscribers. I’ll keep uploading videos that you’ll enjoy!

  4. You're fantastic at capturing a space devoid of people The moon had the delicious look of a well-baked cracker The Scorpius constellation is impressive🤩 Thank you for a relaxing trip🥰

  5. 今回も素晴らしい船旅をありがとうございます。

  6. The voyage from Sendai to Tomakomai is lovely and comfortable. It seems the food served on board inexpensive and delicious. Thank you for sharing this great video.

  7. Congratulations Capsule Japan for making 100,000 subscribers!🎉🇯🇵🎉 I enjoy your videos and I really enjoyed this one. What a great ferry and what a nice trip. That is an incredible value at $44. I don't think you could take a bus here for that price and have it an overnight trip besides. Thank you for taking us with you!

  8. I love your videos because 1) I like traveling in Japan,

    2) I always look for alternatives to airplane travel and I love ferries, and

    3) I worked in television for 25 years and appreciate quality videos.

I always enjoy your videos. Great work!

  11. Great trip. If Nagoya to Tomakomai route is too long, so Sendai to Tomakomai is a great choice for trying Taiheiyo Ferry. Plenty of food making ferry journey is wonderful.
