安曇川使った筏流しの木材運搬の守護神とされる神社。
河童伝説とはシコブチ神が息子と筏で安曇川を下っているとカッパが現れ息子を川に引きずり込もうとした。シコブチ神はカッパを懲らしめ、筏乗りに二度と手出ししないよう誓わせたという。
その後安曇川での水難事故が無くなった為、流域にしこぶち神を祭る神社が７社出来たそうです。

This shrine is said to be the guardian deity of the rafting that uses the Azumi River to transport timber.
The Kappa legend goes that when Shikobuchi-sama was going down the Azumi River with his son on a raft, a kappa appeared and tried to drag his son into the river. Shikobuchi-sama punished the kappa, making him swear never to harm the raftman again.
After that, there were no more drowning accidents on the Azumi River, and seven shrines dedicated to Shikobuchi-sama were established along the river basin.
