【熊本Vlog】まちなかグルメ、美術館、きもの探し、カフェ&レコード散歩

Hello, this is Sky. Today, I’ll be taking a casual stroll around the art museum and downtown. First, let’s start with lunch. The approach to the restaurant is super charming. Western-style restaurant “Mimaki”. It’s cozy and has a hidden-gem vibe. I ordered today’s lunch set, which includes soup, salad, bread, and coffee. First up, new onion soup. The natural sweetness of the onions gently spreads throughout my mouth. The dappled sunlight through the large windows feels so pleasant. Next, the salad. The crisp texture and refreshing dressing match perfectly. Here comes the main dish! The juicy meat is packed with rich flavor. A blissful afternoon… Perfect for both everyday lunches and special occasions. A stylish and calm place where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. It’s a popular spot, so advance reservations are recommended. The stone walls are so beautiful, I can’t help but admire them every time. Now, I’m heading to the art museum. Wait… I really have to climb this hill!? lol I was easily overtaken by a high schooler sprinting up… The gap kept widening, and I painfully realized my lack of stamina… Along the way, I could see the reconstruction work site up close, and took a leisurely stroll through the spacious Ninomaru Park. The scenery was so refreshing that I almost forgot the heat. Ama…zing…! The Kumamoto Prefectural Art Museum is located right next to Kumamoto Castle. I came to see the much-anticipated Kiyoshi Yamashita exhibition. From his childhood pencil drawings to his iconic piece, “Nagaoka Fireworks,” around 190 works are on display, including oil paintings, pen drawings, and ceramics. It was a different experience from the image portrayed in dramas, a chance to meet the real Kiyoshi Yamashita. Workshops that both children and adults can enjoy are also being held. Let’s check out the museum shop as well. For some reason, I’m drawn to tin toys… I’ll take the exhibition catalog home as a souvenir to keep the memories alive. Oh… it’s heavy. The “100th Anniversary Kiyoshi Yamashita Exhibition – Centennial Retrospective” runs until August 31. The museum’s café, “Sakura Café.” The greenery of Ninomaru Park seen through the window is beautiful, creating a peaceful atmosphere. I’m savoring the afterglow of the exhibition for a while. I ordered a tea and cake set. They also offer light meals like Kumamoto Akaushi beef hamburgers, Napolitan pasta, scones, crepes, and more. So fluffy. Pure happiness. This building was designed by Kunio Maekawa, a master of modernist architecture. It offers a quiet and refined time in a space where architecture and nature blend. It’s a place where museum visitors gather and can take a relaxing break. The location surrounded by history and nature is its greatest charm. A serene and elegant atmosphere flowed here, perfect for adults. I’m back in the downtown area. A specialty shop for secondhand kimono, “Recycle Kimono Goraku.” They have a wide selection including komon, houmongi, furisode, obi, and accessories. I’ve been here several times before, and I bought a haori I use as loungewear in winter, and have enjoyed using obi as a table runner. Today, I’m looking for a nice yukata find. I prefer older fabrics because they’re more comfortable… They also have men’s yukata. This is a pre-tied obi. Looks like it doesn’t fit me… too bad! There’s a variety of prices for remakes and kimono dressing practice – it’s like a treasure hunt. I think beginners and advanced kimono lovers alike will enjoy it. The owner is very knowledgeable and kindly shares tips on storage and dressing. It’s great to be able to ask for advice comfortably even for first-timers. An elderly customer was there at the same time. They bought fabric to make a Japanese-style dress. I learned a lot; that’s a wonderful way to make use of kimono. That dress color will surely be beautiful. I got excited imagining how it would turn out, even though it’s someone else’s..! This is a “Mugetsu” shawl made with mud-dyed Kasuri threads from Amami Oshima Tsumugi silk. The silk is gentle on the skin with a light, fluffy texture. I shamelessly tried it on too. While learning from various people, I returned to my shopping. While looking at a shibori kimono, the owner brought out a recommendation… An unexpected furisode…! lol But the silk texture and colors were so cool, it felt like looking at a piece of art. I didn’t purchase it this time, but I think it’s wonderful to breathe new life into unused kimono. I’ll definitely come again! I want some hydration… Cafe & social park “OmoKen Park.” The walls are made from locally sourced Oguni cedar, creating a warm space. This time I ordered a café latte. I chose iced because it’s hot. Ahh, I feel revived…! The courtyard is planted with vegetation from Mt. Aso. Inside, the courtyard, the second-floor terrace, and rooftop dome seats offer various ways to enjoy the space depending on the season. The environment helps me focus and work efficiently. Besides being a café, they also hold art exhibitions and hands-on events. Working with local creators and shops, it has become a place where people gather and connect. It’s wonderful to have a spot like this downtown. Looking for new record finds… Used record specialty shop “iNaDAY records.” They have a wide range of genres and a rich lineup. Each record has handwritten comments from the owner, which is very appealing. It’s filled with deep knowledge and love for music. Hoping to find some unexpected treasures… This time is the most fun, and my heart is racing. Nostalgic Sérgio Mendes! Even if I already have it, if a better condition comes around, I want to buy it… Is this what they call the record rabbit hole…? Record prices have been rising lately, but this shop is reasonable, which is great! Yay! The first album of “Anzenchitai” I was looking for! Now I have all five albums! I’m savoring this strange sense of achievement. lol I want to listen to Stevie Wonder again after a while. So I bought two records! I ended up staying quite long… I feel as fulfilled as after spending time at a theme park. lol It’s already sunset. Alright, tonight is a summer heat relief party (which is really just a drinking party). Churrasco specialty restaurant “Terrace.” A Western-style house built in the Taisho era has been stylishly renovated. The interior is modern and open. It’s perfect for casual gatherings or dates. Ahh, it soaks in beautifully… Starting with horse sashimi carpaccio. The fresh flavor of horse sashimi spreads gently. Perfect with beer! A plate full of grilled vegetables and deli salad made from local produce. Enjoying it with recommended natural wine. Nachos have arrived too. The Aso volcanic lava ajillo includes fresh octopus from Amakusa. I knew it would be hot, but it was even hotter! Crazy hot! lol There are various types of tacos too. These fritters were incredibly delicious! It was so tasty, the wine kept flowing. The staff’s attentive service also left a great impression, very comfortable. Awesome~ Tonight’s main dish, Aso Akaushi beef fillet. It’s really tender and delicious! This is Amakusa Bainiku pork. A place to enjoy Kumamoto brand meat and vegetables in a lively churrasco style. It might be a great recommendation also for tourists and business travelers. That’s it for this time. Thank you very much for watching till the end.
