【山口】絶景とグルメの宝庫だった!ドライブ好きツーリング好きは必見の周防大島を1日でどこまで行けるか?
Hello, this is Dora Travel. This time, we’re driving around an island in the Seto Inland Sea. We’re exploring Suo-Oshima in Yamaguchi Prefecture, known as the Hawaii of the Seto Inland Sea. We enjoyed this beautiful island with its gourmet food, stunning views, and rich history on a day trip drive. Let’s get started right away. Suo-Oshima is located in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It’s the third-largest island in the Seto Inland Sea. It’s also called Yashiro Island. It lies beyond the emerald-green Oshima Bridge It’s a beautiful bridge, isn’t it? It takes about an hour and a half by car from both Hiroshima City and Yamaguchi City. It’s just the right distance for a drive or a tour. There are actually tons of cafes here, and they’re all the kind of places you’ll want to tell someone about. There were so many shops, I got really confused. Salvare Suo-Oshima Branch An Italian restaurant with a panoramic ocean view This time, we visited in September. This channel documents our road trip through Western Japan. If you’re interested or want to support us, please hit the like button and subscribe to the channel. It was packed as soon as it opened. It’s better to make a reservation in advance. The exterior of the restaurant. The smoke from the pizza oven beckoning us is inviting. Even before entering, it already smells delicious. The log cabin interior, built by the owner, is spacious and filled with the aroma of pizza. This aroma is irresistible when you’re hungry. Orders are placed via QR code. Here’s a glimpse of part of the menu. Every pizza here looks absolutely delicious. The most popular menu item is “Raw Vegetables and Smoked Tongue.” It’s piled high with lettuce and tomatoes, almost spilling over. The smoked tongue has a pleasant smokiness and a moist texture. The crust is nice and crispy. The chili oil pairs perfectly. It’s spicy and delicious too. It’s quite large, so eating the whole thing alone will fill you up. Believe it or not, it’s 30 centimeters in diameter. That’s equivalent to a large size Japanese delivery pizza. It was delicious. This time we’re going from the west end of the island to the east end. The southern part of the island was a scenic coastal drive route. Let’s head to the cafe in the middle of the island. The island’s main road is on the north side. There were many shops reminiscent of Hawaii. Next, we visited a cafe called “Matcha Stand Tachibana.” It’s a specialty shop for Japanese matcha lattes. The parking lot is spacious. This place is a little different from a regular cafe. They whisk Japanese matcha into a cafe latte. And you get to experience doing it yourself! The interior, renovated from an old folk house, is very spacious. Guidance on the types of tea. Pouring hot water here changes the aroma even more. We’ve created a menu for beginners. Please enjoy the tea’s aroma as well. Even if you don’t understand, they’ll teach you carefully and sometimes give you praise. A matcha latte you make yourself tastes so much better. The sweetness is restrained. The rich bitterness and aroma of the matcha were superb. And then there’s this: matcha tiramisu served in a masu box. This also has a restrained sweetness, making it easy to eat. Adding black sugar syrup really brought out the richness of the matcha. And the tiramisu… it was delicious. Seating includes long tables and private booth-like areas in the back. I’m also curious about the “Hojicha Latte Base” made with Japan’s finest hojicha tea. It said the refined sweetness is its defining feature. Once you come here, you’ll want to try different teas. It’s cozy too—a recommended spot. After filling our stomachs, we arrived at this beach, representing Suo-Oshima. Katazoe Beach If it’s this beautiful, even sharks would want to swim here (?) Blue sky, blue sea, and white sandy beach This shrine is a branch of Itsukushima Shrine A torii gate stands in the sea. The contrast between the blue sea and the red torii gate is magnificent. The tide must come up to the black part. There was no temple stamp. We drive to the eastern part of the island. The sea along the way felt great while driving. Next up: The Japanese Navy Battleship Mutsu Memorial Museum A historically invaluable memorial museum It displayed precious artifacts and documents salvaged from the actual battleship Mutsu. It lies submerged offshore near the memorial hall. Suo-Oshima isn’t just about beautiful nature It also has historical heritage sites like this Next up is “Roadside Sazan Seto Touwa” It seems everyone who comes to the island stops here Even if you don’t have any particular business, it’s a place worth visiting. Souvenirs, restaurants, food trucks, events too—it’s a fun roadside station, right? This shop always had a line of people. The balance of sourness and sweetness in the mandarin oranges is perfect. This flavor is apparently the most popular (mandarin orange). Oh? There was an island like this. Looks like the island I saw in Shodoshima. It’ll come into view soon. The scenery you see on the way there is also wonderful. It’s been about two hours since low tide. It was a bit different than I expected. lol
You can get there in about five minutes, so please visit. I just realized I haven’t done a single Hawaiian thing on this island called the Hawaii of the Seto Inland Sea lol All the shops I visited this time were great, so I hope this helps with your travels Also, the Ōshima Bridge is famous for having currents as fast as the Kanmon Straits. Be sure to check that out too. This bridge carries water pipes and cables. It’s truly the island’s lifeline. The island is larger than expected, requiring half a day for sightseeing. A one-day plan that also includes Iwakuni will definitely be too rushed. What did you think? Even just a quick look reveals many shops you’ll want to visit, and the scenery is amazing! There are still so many places I want to visit, but that’s all for this time. If you’re thinking “I want to go there,” I’d be thrilled if you could give it a thumbs up and leave a comment! Well then, let’s meet again on the next journey. See you later. I plan to head to the tip.
