観光地じゃないのに激ウマ!北海道・南幌でしか食べられないご当地グルメ
What!? Even though this is an inland town with no sea, the seafood quality is amazing! Hello from Nanporo Town! This is a small town not very well known as a tourist destination, but its gourmet food scene is incredible! Before explaining the town, let’s start with the local favorite “Kotobukiya” This restaurant serves fresh seafood directly shipped from fishing ports in eastern Hokkaido. When it comes to Akkeshi, oysters are a must! …But Honestly, I’m not really a fan of oysters… I’ve heard Kotobukiya’s oysters are absolutely delicious! Haha Still, everything at Kotobukiya tastes amazing! First, the hearty “Fisherman’s Rice” loaded with fresh seafood without holding back And their specialty, Zantare bowls, are also hugely popular. There are many dishes combining Zantare with seafood, and the two-color bowl topped with crab and salmon roe is exquisite! What’s even more surprising is the price! You wouldn’t expect it from the cozy atmosphere… In short, it’s really affordable! Wow, Kotobukiya’s dishes were truly amazing! “Inland town, yet surprisingly affordable seafood”… This is such a common thing in Hokkaido. Nanporo Town is just about a 45-minute drive from Sapporo, so it’s very accessible. It’s a rural town with a growing population and active agriculture. Scenic nature spreads throughout this peaceful area. The mountains in the Sorachi region of Hokkaido have thrived as a coal-producing area since long ago. Here, the stewed style of Jingisukan (grilled mutton) is mainstream. You can enjoy tender Jingisukan with meat fully infused with flavor. Nanporo’s specialty “Nanporo Jingisukan” is also very popular locally. In the past, the Yubari Railway ran through Nanporo Town. It transported coal from the Yubari mines, and also carried passengers. With the passage of time, the Yubari Railway was abolished, and now the “YOU” mark on the town buses is all that remains. Looking at the peaceful scenery while feeling the history you can really feel time slowing down. Towns connected to coal often feel abandoned, but not Nanporo! It’s surprisingly clean, even giving off a modern vibe. In the new residential areas, bright scenery and a relaxed pace of life await. After enjoying the town’s atmosphere and history, it’s time to savor one more local dish. We’ve come to a popular ramen shop in Nanporo Town, “Nanporo de Takahashi.” The location is so peaceful~ It’s a bit away from the residential area. It’s a calm shop converted from a house, serving ramen with fresh vegetables from Nanporo. First, the water tastes amazing! This raises great expectations!! I’ll have the soy sauce ramen. First, just a little sip of the slightly rich soup. The sweetness and depth from Nanporo onions is perfect! As for the onion toppings… You’ll wonder, “Have onions always been this delicious?” The noodles clearly feel specially tuned for this ramen. The fragrant char siu pairs perfectly as well. I’m sure the green onions and garlic are from Nanporo too. By the way, if you order rice, you get Nanporo-grown “Yumepirika” rice. This ramen is almost entirely made with ingredients from Nanporo. A bowl filled with the owner’s soul, warming both body and heart. Nanporo ramen was truly delicious! Now that we’re full from ramen, it’s time to relax a little. Nanporo Onsen Heart & Heart This is a free-flowing sodium-chloride hot spring. This area was once under the sea, so the spring water is slightly salty, a mix of groundwater and seawater. Evidence of the sea: you can find these from the underground of the Sorachi region. Soaking slowly warms you from the core. There’s also a restaurant where you can enjoy Nanporo’s specialty cabbage tempura bowl. The cabbage is lightly fried, and mixed with the sweet and savory sauce—simply perfect! Eating it after the hot spring makes it even more delicious. Next to Nanporo Onsen Heart & Heart, there’s also a local vegetable market. You can buy fresh vegetables while visiting the onsen. Across the street, there’s a must-visit place for dessert lovers. Let’s go in right away. Here, you can enjoy gelato made with rice “Kirara 397” grown in Nanporo Town. This time, I chose half chocolate and half “Kirara 397” milk ice cream. The rice grains add a nice crunch like chocolate chips, and pair perfectly with the rich milk flavor! After warming up in the onsen, the cold and sweet gelato feels amazing! Wow, I really enjoyed Nanporo Town to the fullest. Even inland, the surprising seafood at Kotobukiya, like Fisherman’s Rice and Zantare bowls and ramen with plenty of Nanporo-grown vegetables at “Nanporo de Takahashi” Relaxing in the onsen, enjoying the signature cabbage tempura bowl to fill up, and finishing sweetly with gelato made with local “Kirara 397” rice. I’m completely refreshed by Nanporo Town. Nanporo Town may be small, but you can fully enjoy both gourmet food and nature. It’s close to both Sapporo and New Chitose Airport, so why not take a short trip and experience the charm of Nanporo Town? Thank you for watching until the end!
