Today, after driving over Mikuni Pass, we plan to drive to Asahikawa. Tomorrow will be our last day in Hokkaido. Over the past eight days, I’ve enjoyed the excellent visibility provided by the Land Cruiser 250’s large windows and lift-up mechanism. I also drove on Hokkaido’s rough roads with manual transmission tires. This allowed me to test the sense of grip, among other things. Currently, the weather is cloudy with a temperature of 22°C, and I expect it will gradually improve. The beautiful river and… the beautiful natural scenery are soothing. We’re approaching our destination. This forest garden is based on five themes. You can enjoy a beautiful world woven by Hokkaido’s flowers and greenery. We strolled through the forest garden and then passed through the Forest Gateway, where there was also a beautiful commemorative photo corner. Finally, we had ice cream before heading on. We’re driving 60 kilometers to Asahikawa and heading to our lodgings. It’s starting to rain, but we’re making good progress. It’s been raining for the past two days, but the ceramic coating we applied repels water from the Land Cruiser 250’s hood, keeping it clean and pristine. Can you see the water moving? This hotel offers a large natural hot spring bath and even offers midnight snack service. While it’s located in the city, it doesn’t feel oppressive. We head straight for dinner. Today, we’re here to try Asahikawa’s specialty dish: salted innards, a dish that originated in Asahikawa . Fresh innards are lined up. Delicious! From here, we pick up the pace. This time, we try the meat with green onions and lemon on top. An amazing dish is brought out… the charcoal-grilled meat is delicious. Now that I’m full, I want coffee, but I don’t think there’s one in the shopping district. After walking for a while, I unexpectedly spot the word “COFFEE.” I’m not sure what the atmosphere will be like inside. I’m a little nervous, but I decide to go in. Oh, I can smell coffee. Cute ladies warmly welcomed me. The interior has a sophisticated design that is hard to imagine from the outside. I take a quick tour of the rooms. This shop is very calming and cute, and I wish it had one in Tokyo too. I’d like to come here in the winter too. This corn muffin is absolutely delicious. It was the best muffin I’ve ever had. We bought one muffin for two people, but it was so good we bought another. I’m going to take a bath and go to bed early. DAY 9 08:00 Good morning. It’s finally our last day in Hokkaido. We arrived in front of Asahikawa Station for breakfast. The restaurant my wife wanted to go to was closed, so we’ll be eating at this restaurant. We first head to a shop selling limited-edition oven-baked apple pie. Luckily, we managed to get an apple pie. We plan to eat it on the ferry back today. I’m looking forward to enjoying our last Hokkaido soft serve ice cream and coffee at the cafe inside the shop. From here, we travel about 160 kilometers. The Ishikari River is visible on the right. We stopped at one last tourist spot before boarding the ferry. Here, we had our first experience leading a horse. My wife said it was a memorable experience. We’re now heading to Tomakomai Port, but we’ll have a late lunch along the way. First, the fatty salmon is delicious! We’ll be boarding the ferry after this, so this will be our last meal in Hokkaido. We’ll enjoy Hokkaido seafood to our heart’s content. The fatty yellowtail is incredible. It’s beyond conveyor belt sushi…the seafood is simply delicious. Kaitenmaru, it was delicious. Thank you very much. The ferry terminal is just around the corner. We follow the signs for Sendai. We go to get our tickets. My wife, who is a passenger, boards the ferry from the pier. The driver is waiting in the car. We’re finally leaving Hokkaido. Now, let’s board. Thank you, Hokkaido!
