Numajiri Motoyu, a hot spring located beneath the crater halfway up Mount Adatara in Fukushima Prefecture (approximately 1,250 meters above sea level), is believed to have first been discovered during the Edo period and boasts a history spanning more than two hundred years. The source is a high-temperature, highly acidic sulfur spring, boasting the highest single-source flow rate in Japan at 13,400 liters per minute. Located in Inawashiro Town, Fukushima Prefecture , this video introduces the charms of Numajiri Onsen and Numajiri Kogen Lodge. This video showcases the lodge’s all-inclusive sulfur baths, lounge, rooms, dinner, and breakfast options. Please take the time to enjoy the video, which is packed with highlights. History and Overview: Numajiri Kogen Lodge is located in Bandai-Asahi National Park, surrounded by the vast natural beauty of Mount Azuma and Mount Adatara . In 1975, Junko Tabei, a mountaineer from Miharu Town, Fukushima Prefecture, became the first woman to summit Mount Everest and the highest peaks on all seven continents . The lodge was built by Tabei as a way for her to connect with mountaineers visiting Japan from around the world. Incredibly, a film about Tabei’s life was released on the same day this video was released ! After Tabei’s sad passing , the lodge she loved her whole life was fully renovated in 2019 by President Watanabe of Aizu Ashinomaki Onsen Okawaso, keeping the same name. The current lodge is an adults-only private lodge offering a luxurious highland stay while retaining its original appearance and atmosphere . The lodge’s attractions include its 100% natural hot spring baths and Chef Nemoto’s creative cuisine, which uses seasonal ingredients from local Fukushima and is highly praised by repeat guests. We’ll talk more about the wonderful baths and cuisine later. Camping facility “nowhere” takes advantage of the surrounding expansive natural environment and offers activities at the adjacent campground, as well as unusual optional tours such as the “Extreme Hot Spring Plan” that takes you to the Numajiri Hot Springs . Access is approximately 30 minutes from the Inawashiro Bandai Kogen IC on the Ban’etsu Expressway and approximately 20 minutes by car from JR Inawashiro Station (please inquire about shuttle service). Enter the building through the entrance, which retains the original exterior from when Junko Tabei was the owner . The entrance lobby has been renovated, but still retains a lovely mountain lodge-like atmosphere. Actual firewood is burned in the fireplace in winter. The front desk features numerous photographs and books related to Tabei. A staircase leads to the lounge. There is no elevator. This lounge, available to guests, is available for almost the entire stay. It is a stylish and spacious lounge furnished with colorful sofas and tables. In addition to tea and coffee, they also offer scotch and wine, along with snacks. There were also exhibits related to Tabei here. After check-in, we were given an explanation of meal times, the baths, and our rooms. The plan was an all-inclusive plan , which included drinks in the lounge, drinks from the room refrigerator, and drinks at dinner. Accommodation fees will be explained in the room introduction. About the rooms: There are 12 guest rooms on the first and second floors, all with different styles. Although renovated in 2019, the rooms still retain the charming atmosphere of a mountain lodge. Here is a review of the suite room with hot spring . The suite room with semi-open-air hot spring bath is a maisonette (40.5 m²) room , with the bath and sink on the upper floor and the bed space below. The room has a high ceiling and an open feel ^^ Because it is an all-inclusive plan, drinks in the refrigerator are free (^^♪ Fukushima local beer, 100% peach juice 😍 Free drink menu, or you can have them brought to your room There was a Bluetooth speaker, a charger, and some duct tape for insects? 😅 I didn’t use it this time ^^ What is this? A candlestick? If you know, please let me know ^^ There are two semi-double size Simmons beds. It is extremely comfortable to sleep 👍 There is no TV in the room as we want guests to feel like they are in nature Air conditioning is provided ^^ There is no closet, so clothes are hung on hangers. The toilet has a washlet . The sink is made from a single piece of wood and is stylish 👍 Toothbrushes, razors, combs, cotton sets, etc. are provided Panasonic hair dryers Hot hangers are especially useful in winter ♪ The semi-open-air bath in the guest room The scent of sulfur wafts through the air 🤗 It is a ceramic tub bath large enough for 1-2 people. It is a beautiful milky white sulfur spring ♪ Rich in metasilicic acid, which is said to be a skin-beautifying ingredient, This is great for women! 👍 The window can be opened a little (though not all the way). There’s a washing area. The shampoo was Leaf & Botanics (a domestic brand). WiFi is available in the room. Mobile phone reception is also available. Next is the standard twin room , starting at 13.3 m² . It’s a special room with a living room and bed space, 28.3 m² in size. It has a shower, sofa, toilet, and washbasin. It has a beautiful mountain view. ♪ A semi-double Simmons bed . There’s a shower room (no bathtub). Standard plans include mineral water. The bath basket is very stylish. 👍 I tried on a workwear kimono (samue) ^^ It’s thin and comfortable to wear. ♪ lol Bath Introduction: The large public bath is located at the back of the lobby. The men’s bath has a washbasin at the front and a changing area at the back. Like the rooms, the single-piece wooden platform is stylish and very clean. ♪ Amenities are also provided. The hair dryer is Panasonic. There are 12 rooms, so the space is ample. The source is Numajirimotoyu , pH 2.0, sulfur-containing calcium, aluminum, sulfate, and chloride spring. The source temperature is 62°C. Men’s bath The smell of sulfur wafts through the indoor bath ^^ The wooden bathroom is very nice, just like the atmosphere of the lodge. The bath is small, accommodating 2-3 adults. 100% of the hot spring water flows from the wooden spout. The water is a slightly cloudy sulfur spring , rich in metasilicic acid, and it feels smooth when you soak in it. There is also a washing area with a shower. Shampoos are available at Hajimari Organic Men’s Bath Open-air bath This, like the lodge, has a nice wooden atmosphere♪ The back seems to blend in with the natural scenery outside ^^ It is a stone bath that is much larger than the indoor bath. 100% of the hot spring water flows from this spout . Next is the women’s bath. The washing and undressing areas are almost the same. Amenities and soaps are for women only. Women’s bath The indoor bath is slightly larger than the men’s bath, and the washing area is a little larger. Shampoos and other amenities are the same. Women ‘s bath The open-air bath roof hangs all the way to the back, which is also wild ^^ The shape is slightly different from the men’s bath, and the women’s bath is even larger. The water is beautiful and slightly bluish . After your bath, head to the lounge for a toast ! The lounge after your bath is the best ♪ It’s time for dinner . We’ll have dinner in the dining room on the first floor. Only tableware is provided on the table. There is a menu. Each ingredient is carefully introduced, and it’s like reading a poem. ^^ All-inclusive menu. Drink menu (fee required) . There is a wide selection, from Fukushima local sake to wine and soft drinks. Let’s toast again (^^♪ My wife had plum sour and I had Fukushima beer. [Introduction] Hishi tea from Lake Inawashiro Kozuyu dashi (dashi stock ) Earthenware pot steamed in kozuyu dashi stock using hishi from Lake Inawashiro . A medicinal soup with scallops, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms and Jerusalem artichoke. It is said to have the effect of warming the stomach . The water chestnut dashi stock is effective and the ingredients can be eaten. Aizu live jellyfish Inawashiro shiitake mushrooms Scallops Large and satisfying scallops ^^ [Blessings of the Autumn Satoyama] Inawashiro Poirot Leek Grilled and Marinated “Poirot Leek” is also known as Western onion and is a leek with a mild flavor and little spiciness. Edamame Tsukimi Musume Yamashio- zuke It is less salty than regular salt. The sashimi has arrived. Straw-smoked yellowtail amberjack directly from Onagawa Port. This is sashimi that has been smoked with straw to give it a fragrant aroma. Mustard is unusual for sashimi 😳 You can feel the subtle aroma of the smoked flavor. This is seared yellowtail. This is a very luxurious sashimi set 🤗 Special Junmai sake “Akiagari” is a delicious sake with no strong flavor. And now the hot pot has arrived (^^♪ [Autumn small hot pot stand] Shabu-shabu hotpot of Iwate-produced duck loin, Inawashiro-picked arugula, and red onion . We will eat it piping hot (^^♪ The arugula (herb) gives it a slightly Western feel ♪ The flavor is light, but the duck broth comes out well. There are many dishes that use broth and flavor. Tamajimushi (steamed) eggs from Aizu-ji chicken. We will actually combine the Tamajimushi with salmon roe. It seems that the salmon roe is saved for rice ^^ The luxurious combination of Tamajimushi and salmon roe is the best 👍 Direct from Kesennuma Port Grilled fresh pacific saury with salt This is grilled pacific saury, including the bones and innards, and is simply grated. Served with grated red daikon radish, it feels like you’re eating grated daikon radish and pacific saury . Next, we squeezed some kabosu. The kabosu adds a citrus flavor, which creates a delicious change in flavor that’s really fun 😋 This dish seems to have concentrated the flavor of the pacific saury 👍 You’re not planning to drink it, are you lol? [Chilled bowl] Jade autumn eggplant with land lotus root grated yam and buckwheat “Aizu no Kaori” A refreshing dish that’s like a palate cleanser. Introducing the main dish ~ [Tonight’s dish] Fukushima beef rib meat, grilled with firewood and fragrant spices. A rib meat is the meat at the tip of the rump. This rare cut of beef features a perfect balance of lean and marbled meat, and is characterized by the umami of the lean meat and the sweetness of the fat. The bowl is piping hot! 👍 Beef stew, which isn’t on the menu, is complimentary♪ I’m breathing heavily😤 Sorry, that’s vulgar😅 lol It’s so delicious, it seems like I’m excited^^ I don’t really understand what I’m saying . First , I eat the steak as is . The second one is salted with Japanese pepper, and finally, I mix it with the beef stew for a beef-on-beef combo^^ The side dish is pickles . Then the meal arrives~ The rice is “Yudai 21” from Inawashiro , which has a chewy texture and a strong sweetness. It’s rice seasoned with peanuts, and seasonal pickles, and large peanuts😳 The peanut aroma is fragrant👍 I saved some side dishes for the last meal lol I also saved some salmon roe and seared yellowtail lol I’ll make a rice bowl with it^^ It even has salmon roe😳 It’s a luxurious bowl^^ He looks happy (^^♪ I’m just being selfish😅 [Fresh Desserts] Various early autumn Fukushima fruits Chilled and matured baked sweet potato brulee Chilled and matured baked sweet potato brulee The surface is seared with a burner Very sweet and delicious baked sweet potato It was my first time seeing baked sweet potato brulee ^^ It was a very sweet potato Fukushima figs simmered in honey Inawashiro Korotan melon “Queen Nina” A very juicy melon It was a wonderful dish It was all dishes I had never seen before The taste changed depending on the combination and it was very enjoyable I can see why the repeat customer I met that day praised it so much Thank you for the meal Night view At night it gets pitch black. It feels like a good day ♪ It’s time for breakfast Breakfast is served at the same table in the same venue. There was a menu as in the morning It’s a luxurious breakfast meal ♪ You can choose between brown rice and white rice My wife chose brown rice I chose white rice Iwaki City Wonder Farm 100% tomato juice Fukushima nameko mushroom miso soup . A thick and creamy miso soup ♪ Homemade tofu made with Aizu soy milk , Aizu mountain salt, and olive oil. This homemade tofu is also melt-in-your-mouth 😋 The seasonings used in every dish are exquisite 👍 As with dinner, the breakfast also shows a commitment to using local ingredients and dishes, allowing you to enjoy a variety of flavors ♪ The salad is made with large cherry tomatoes 😳 and a homemade perilla koji dressing. The tomatoes are sweet and delicious. [Grilled fish] Sanriku silver salmon sangohachizuke. Sangohachizuke is a koji-zuke traditional in the Tohoku region. This was my first time trying salmon sangohachizuke 😳. Saikyo- yaki. It was grilled salmon with a nice flavor 😋 I had some marinated konjac , and since it was an all-inclusive plan, I got free juice in the morning too ♪ I had peach juice, pounded whitebait boiled in water from Soma Port, grated mekabu, and grated yam. I also had the mekabu and whitebait topping on a rice bowl ♪ It looked delicious (^^ ♪ Nametake mushrooms with scallops and Jerusalem artichokes served with rice ♪ Sweetened simmered adzuki beans, spicy cod roe, homemade Matsukawaura aosa seaweed with perilla tsukudani. I had a second helping of rice ^^ I had a soft-boiled egg ♪ I checked the softness ^^ The yolk was very soft 😍 This time I had it with mountain salt and ate it ^^ Morning dessert: yogurt and peach CX. ” Peach CX” is a very late-ripening variety of peach from Fukushima. It’s a firm peach, but it seems to be ripe. It has a texture similar to an apple ^^ Rich yogurt made only from raw milk, and acacia honey from Aizu . Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. It was a pleasant surprise 😳 Apparently the head chef does everything from preparation to cooking all by himself. Thank you for the meal!
