[青森車中泊] 小雨の夜。秋の百沢温泉で3色グラデーションの岩木山を拝む。クマ対策してるクマみたいなオジサン。Kei Truck Camper 「Bug-truck」
Hi! I’m Ono in Aomori. Today I’m visiting the Hyakuzawa Onsen. Last year I opened this RV park. Since then, I’ve been working on improving the shared areas whenever I have time. At first, I couldn’t do anything without the carpenter’s help. Lately, I’ve gradually become able to work on my own. The materials used for the walls are scrap wood I got from the carpenter. I’m certainly not skilled at it, but I figure if problems arise later, I can just redo the work over and over again. Working alone in silent concentration is enjoyable. I’ll be doing car camping here tonight. Bear sightings have been reported frequently across Japan this year. This area is no exception. When using the RV park, please take strict measures to manage food and trash that could attract bears. Additionally, for those who are concerned, we have made it possible to stay overnight in the parking lot of the hot spring facility. I think it should be fine, but just to be safe, I’ll park here tonight. Well then, let’s get in the hot spring and have a beer. Today there’s plenty of scrap wood, so I don’t have to worry about firewood. I upgraded this part a bit. Cheers! Work + Hot Springs = Beer is the best Awesome. Let’s start the party. Today I’m having soba for dinner. The ingredients are shiitake mushrooms and Japanese leeks. Also add pork. Even if you make the noodle broth light, the umami from the mushrooms and meat makes it delicious enough. I found something called “Scallop Soy Sauce Mayo” at a nearby store, so I bought it. I’d never actually heard of this kind of dish before. Imagine scallops seasoned with soy sauce and mayonnaise. This tastes exactly like that. Perfect for pairing with drinks. This is the sake I received from the town when I won the business plan contest in Nakadomari Town the other day. This sake is made with rice grown in Aomori Prefecture without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. It is said to require over three times the effort compared to producing regular sake rice. This sake lets you experience the pure taste of rice. It’s robust and full-bodied, offering an honest flavor without flashiness. Here, add the Tsugaru soba. Tsugaru soba, the soba of this region, is a dish that divides opinion even among soba enthusiasts. Because it’s a type of soba noodle with a soft texture that breaks easily. When I first tried it, I thought it was too soft and not tasty. But after eating it a few times, this texture and gentle flavor become addictive, and sometimes I just crave it out of the blue. It pairs especially well with rich soba broth and is incredibly delicious. In my personal opinion, Tsugaru soba is like “buckwheat porridge.” This soba pairs exceptionally well with Japanese sake. I hear something outside. What is that? Animal Horn? To keep bears away. There’s a man who looks like a bear. I might get shot if mistaken for a bear. If your patrol’s done, how about grabbing a drink together? I’m having a few drinks with a friend who manages this hot spring after a long time. The room looks even nicer than when I was here last time. He moved from Tokyo to Aomori three years ago. When I lived in Tokyo, I shared a room with him for seven years. There was a time when the two of us lived together in a studio apartment. I miss the days when we’d drink together with cheap booze and convenience store snacks. We’ve both been through a lot, so it feels deeply moving to be here together in Aomori, having a drink. I had drinks with him for about an hour. From here, it’s just me, relaxing time. I like the pleasant aroma of pipe tobacco smoke. It’s been ten years since I first bought pipe tobacco, but I still find it difficult to smoke it properly. It must be skillfully controlled so that the fire does not go out or, conversely, become too large. It’s like a small bonfire. But smoking is bad for health, places where you can smoke are limited, and it bothers others, so better to quit. Today I’m going to see the autumn leaves. The first snowfall of the season was observed the other day. I’m going to see the slightly rare view of Mt. Iwaki that can only be seen at this time of year. Mt. Iwaki, with its three-color gradient visible only during this season. The white of the snow on the mountain peak, the red of the autumn leaves, the green of the foothills. And today the weather is nice too! So, this time, it was a video of my car camping trip at Hyakuzawa Onsen in autumn. I’m a bit worried about bears, but I think car camping is safer than tent camping, so I plan to keep enjoying this style. I really hope it snows soon. Thank you for watching till the end.

Autumn car camping in Aomori, Japan, using a wood stove inside the Hyakuzawa Onsen grounds.
My Kei truck camper keeps me warm and comfortable even in the cold season!
The next day, I visited Mt. Iwaki to see its amazing autumn foliage — one of the most beautiful views in northern Japan.
