The city of Izumi rents out some of the rice paddies as a protected area during the winter. and feeds them to prevent damage to crops. You can also observe the courtship behavior of males and females. with the two birds facing each other, flying in a unique way and spreading their wings. The Izumi Plain is known as “the largest migratory ground for cranes in Japan”. The global population of hooded cranes is estimated to be between 14,000 and 16,000. In the Izumi area, about 13,000 cranes, or 80 to 90 percent of the global population, overwinter. In recent years, both the number of birds living in the area and the number of birds coming to the area have been on the rise. In addition, about 50 percent of the total population of White-Naped Cranes, or about 3,000 birds, migrate to the area. The cranes can be observed from the observation deck of the Izumi Crane Observation Center. Crane Museum “Crane Park Izumi” is also nearby. 耶馬渓(やばけい)は、大分県北部の中津市にある大渓谷で、秋には全域が紅葉名所となり「日本三大紅葉名所」の一つに数えられます。

■仁田峠
仁田峠(にたとうげ)は、雲仙岳の中腹にある峠で、「日本の紅葉百選」にも選定されています。

■高舞登山と千巌山
熊本県上天草市にある高舞登山(たかぶとやま)や千巌山(せんがんざん)は雲仙と天草松島を望む景勝地で、いずれも国の「名勝」に指定されています。

■矢岳高原
矢岳高原(やたけこうげん)は、宮崎県えびの市にある矢岳山付近の高原で、展望台からは眼前に「日本百名山」である霧島連山の全景が見渡せます。

岡城跡(おかじょうあと)は、大分県南部の竹田市にあった城郭跡で、国の「史跡」に指定され、「日本100名城」の一つに数えられます。

■熊本城 ( 熊本県 )
熊本城(くまもとじょう)は、熊本市の中心部にある城郭跡で、「日本三名城」の一つに数えられ、国の「特別史跡」に指定されています。

■秋月城跡
秋月城跡(あきづきじょうせき)は、福岡県のほぼ中央部にあった城郭跡で、「日本紅葉の名所100選」に選定されています。

■シチメンソウ群生地
シチメンソウ群生地(しちめんそうぐんせいち)は、有明海に自生する希少種のシチメンソウの群生地で、「日本の紅葉百選」に選定されています。

■行縢の滝
行縢の滝(むかばきのたき)は、宮崎県北部の行縢川にかかる落差77mの滝で、「日本の滝100選」に選定されています。

■曽木の滝
曽木の滝(そぎのたき)は、落差12m、幅210mの滝で、「日本の紅葉百選」、「平成百景」に選定されており、一帯は自然公園として整備されています。

■出水ツル渡来地
出水ツル渡来地(いずみツルとらいち)は、1万羽以上のツルが越冬する「日本一のツル渡来地」として知られ、国の「特別天然記念物」に指定されています。

■藺牟田池 ( 鹿児島県 )
藺牟田池(いむたいけ)は、鹿児島県北西部にある直径約1kmの火山湖で、「絶景 紅葉100選」に選定されています。
