Fukushima Tochigi Osaka International Airport 6:50 am This trip will take me back and forth between Fukushima and Tochigi prefectures. I’d like to visit some famous hot springs and hidden gems on a day trip! So, how many hot springs can I visit? It’s a 1 hour 10 minute flight to Fukushima Airport in a de Havilland Canada Dach 8-400. Once again, I’m sitting in a seat with a view of the landing gear. Gear up ! The weather’s bad after all (-_-;) Gear down! The propeller plane’s fluffy flight is irresistible. A quick landing . I wonder how Ultraman is doing (*^.^*) Ultraman looks healthy (lol) A test of my mettle!? Heading to the super-hot hot spring | Shikanoyu |. Traveling via the Abukuma Highlands Road and Tohoku Expressway to Tochigi Prefecture. Entering Tochigi Prefecture, I missed taking a photo of the prefectural border (^^;) ( Tochigi Prefecture) It’s actually pretty close to Fukushima Airport! It’s super famous, isn’t it? Exiting the highway at Nasu IC. Another steak restaurant! I arrived at Nasu Yumoto Onsen, just under an hour from Fukushima Airport. It’s a simple acidic sulfur spring with a pH of 2.4 (hydrogen sulfide). I’m really looking forward to soaking in the 48°C bath! (^^;) Apparently the hot springs were discovered nearly 1,400 years ago . Opening hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (last admission 5:30 PM), open every day. Bathing fee: 500 yen. The most effective bathing technique is to pour the water over yourself 200 times with a ladle. There are six baths: 41, 42, 43, 44, 46, and 48 degrees (there is no 48-degree bath in the women’s bath). A short, repeated bath, with one minute down to your waist, one minute down to your chest, and one minute down to your neck, is effective. Each bath should last about 15 minutes, and a maximum of four baths per day is recommended. The 48-degree bath was so hot I didn’t get a rash. (>_<) Nasu Highlands Minamigaoka Ranch, a tourist ranch with free admission and centered around dairy farming. We tried soft-serve ice cream made with Guernsey cows, a rare breed in Japan. [Guernsey cows] There are apparently only about 200 of these cows in Japan. Mizugura Watermill Village | 11:00-15:30 (LO 15:00) Closed Wednesdays (Confirmation required) Finally, it started raining. There's a shop selling miso and rice on the premises. The man... I'd like a refill of rice container (´▽｀*) Amazingly, refills were free . Thank you for the Nasu Imperial Eggs ! Now, to work off my meal, I'm going to ride a buggy to play. Nasu Buggy Park | 10:00-16:30 (Subject to change) | Closed Wednesdays, but open on public holidays. Crazy Hill: 1 lap 800m, 3,500 yen (2 people allowed) Next to Minamigaoka Ranch in Nasu Highlands. Stairs with a maximum incline of 30 degrees. We're also going to another day-trip hot spring inn, Kita Onsen Ryokan. This is the filming location for the movie "Thermae Romae." Day-trip bathing from 8:30 to 16:30 is 700 yen. This is a chic building that still retains the atmosphere of the Edo period. Time to take a bath. This way. 8:30 to 17:30 is men only / 17:31 to 8:29 is mixed bathing (guests only). *Women cannot use the bath unless they are staying overnight. pH 6.3. Simple hot spring. Next, we'll go to the indoor bath for women only. Here we go! "Kawara no Yu." Here we go ! The women's bath was also really good. What is this? Next is the open-air women's bath. Finally, we'll go to the hot spring pool and Ainoyu . Ah! So you can go outside from here. It's 15m long, 10m wide, and apparently about chest-height deep. What is this? Wow! There was a bath here too. This is the women's bath and next is the men's bath. Since I've collected 10 stamps, I'll be staying at "Koshi Onsen Ryokan Daikokuya" for free this time. デ・ハビランド・カナダDach8-400で福島空港まで移動。最初に向かったのは、栃木県那須温泉「鹿の湯」です。温度の違う浴槽が6つ(女湯は5つ)あり超激熱48℃の浴槽にチャレンジしました。続いて南ヶ丘牧場や水車の里 瑞穂蔵、那須バギーパークに立ち寄り、最後に奥那須の秘湯、「北温泉旅館」に向かいました。映画「テルマエロマエ」にも登場した「天狗の湯」や「温泉プール」は有名ですが、他にも源泉ジャブジャブ掛け流しの内湯や露天風呂が楽しめて、日帰り入浴を大満喫できました。江戸・明治・昭和期の建物が残り、昔ながらの湯治場の雰囲気も最高でした。
