主婦旅〜初新潟ひとり旅編〜お土産探しと新潟ソウルフード #japantravel #旅行

This is the second part of my housewife trip to Niigata. I took a detour back to the hotel. To see the Bandai Bridge at night, I went up to the “Sora no Hiroba Observation Deck” in a nearby building. Like the Bakauke Observation Deck, this is also free. 😊 Unfortunately, some areas were off-limits due to an event, but the night view was still pretty good. Even the ground is enough to see the night view! The light reflecting off the river’s surface is beautiful. If you want to see the sunset on a clear day, I recommend the observation deck. In search of Niigata’s soul food, “Italian,” I headed to the “Bandai City Bus Center.” It’s just a short bike ride from the Bandai Bridge. Speaking of the bus center, “Bandai Soba” is famous for its “Bus Center Curry,” but… it’s as popular as you’d expect! It’s packed! I had just eaten sushi, so I didn’t have room in my stomach, so I gave up this time. 💦 (Next time, I’ll definitely go!) The restaurant I was looking for is on the second floor. “Mikazuki” is on the right, just after you get off the escalator. There are a variety of dishes, but since it was my first time, I went for the basic “Italian”! I ordered takeout and enjoyed it after the sauna.😊 I waited for it to be ready in the store, which had a nostalgic atmosphere. It only took a few minutes to wait, and I did some groceries at the supermarket before heading back to the hotel. It was a five-minute bike ride to the Minami-Bandai branch of Harashin, a supermarket chain with locations mainly in the Hokuriku region. I love visiting supermarkets when I travel, and Harashin was one of my favorites.😊 They had a wide selection of local products and the prices were reasonable. They had instant noodles of “Niigata Local Ramen” that my kids would love, so I bought some as a souvenir. Speaking of ramen, Harashin’s original “Nagaoka Ginger Soy Sauce Ramen” was delicious. It was chilled, so I hesitated, but I only bought one of the several varieties! In conclusion, I should have bought more.💦 You can also buy the Niigata-exclusive beer “Fumi Soukai Nishite,” which you can find in souvenir shops, at a supermarket price, and of course, they also have a wide selection of Niigata’s signature sake! Speaking of Niigata, you can also buy Yasuda yogurt, and they also have a few standard souvenirs such as Nanban shrimp crackers and salad bread. I didn’t forget to buy Yamariya Oguni Manju, which Haranobu has continued to make using the same methods since the store went out of business. They also had my favorite local coffee (although the price has been gradually increasing). It’s a 7-minute bike ride to the hotel . I want to look around CoCoLo at Niigata Station, so I leave my luggage and head straight to the station. I leave exploring my room for later and head to the station, returning the bicycle I had rented. Most of the souvenir shops are on the second floor of CoCoLo EAST SIDE, which is convenient. I have time to stop by before going home tomorrow, so I’ll start with the shops that are my priority. First, I head to the Yasuda Yogurt store, where I’m greeted by a cute calf 😊 Unlike a supermarket, there is of course a wide selection! Many people were buying souvenir sets. There were also cute goods such as stationery, cosmetics, and apparel. The cookies in the cute tins are so tempting that you want them right away just because of the tin. 💦 There were also baked goods that were only available in the store. I wanted to buy some as souvenirs to take home, but I only checked out the refrigerated items like cakes. Next up, I went to Kameda Seika’s Happy Turn specialty store, “HAPPY SHOP.” I was curious about the “freshly baked Happy Turn” and “coffee that goes well with Happy Turn.” There were also products that were only available at Niigata Station. I like Happy Turn, so I bought this immediately. 😊 Next was “Baka-uke STATION,” a store by Kuriyama Rice Confectionery, which has its headquarters in Niigata. They seem to serve freshly fried Baka-uke only on weekends and holidays. I bought some fried rice crackers with the flavor of “Bus Center Curry,” which I had given up on earlier, because they were selling them. The aroma of spices was strong and delicious. Next was “Un BOURBON.” As the name suggests, it is a Bourbon concept store. “Craft Le Mando,” which can only be purchased here, is a delicate sweet made of many layers of thin dough, making it the perfect souvenir. 😊 It has a special feeling 😊 The sweets are delicate, but they come in a box so you can take them home safely ♪ They also sold Le Mando-flavored drinks and canned coffee. Of course,CoCoLo also has the standard souvenirs! You can purchase “Bandai Taiko” from Osakaya, a Niigata specialty confectionery, and the never-miss “Nanban Ebi Senbei” at their directly managed stores. There were also several sasamochi shops (it was my first time seeing sasamochi canelés!). There was also a wide selection of seafood souvenirs, and of course, there were sake shops! Here, there was also an antenna shop for “Yoshinogawa”, a brewery of Asahi Shuzo, which is famous for “Kubota”. For beer lovers, there was also a shop that collected craft beers from Niigata and around the country! There was a wide selection of souvenirs perfect for giving out to everyone at NewDays outside the ticket gates, including some exclusive NewDays items. The Bus Center Curry pouches were extremely popular, and sold out along with the shop itself. 💦 Next up, I’d like to visit Ponshukan, a popular shop at Niigata Station. There are several Ponshukan shops at Niigata Station, each with a different concept, such as Ponshukan Complex, where you can enjoy a drink and rice balls, and Ponshukan Craftsmanship, which stocks miscellaneous goods made by Niigata artisans. I headed to Ponshukan Niigata Station, which is famous for its sake tasting service with coins. It ‘s located in the CoCoLo Mets building and is marked by a drunk man doll. 😆 You can enter until 8:15pm. For 500 yen, you’ll receive five coins and a sake cup, so I decided to give it a try. 😆 There are over 100 types of alcohol on display! …But I’m not a big fan of alcohol, so I went straight for the plum wine! First, I tried the sake-brewed “Echigo Umeshu” (2 coins). Its light orange color complemented the sweet and sour plum flavor perfectly. 😊 Next was the “Chojamori Umeshu” (1 coin). This one was also made with pure rice wine. It was darker in color and had a larger portion! This one had a stronger plum flavor. There were only two types of plum wine, so I spent the rest of the time exploring the store, deciding on what to drink. 😊 They offered free salt to enjoy with the sake, but there were about 30 different types. They also had “Yaragi Mizu” (water to soothe) so it was a great way to try different flavors. Unable to decide, I browsed the list of recommendations, attracted by the description “Just like summer mandarin juice,” and decided on Echigo Tsurukame’s “Abiichi” (2 coins). I thought it was supposed to be sweet, but when I tried it, I was surprised it was just as sweet as the plum wine I’d just had. 😆 There were also many foreign visitors in the store, and everyone seemed to enjoy choosing their drink. 😆 It gets quite crowded late at night, so be warned. If you’re a sake lover, I recommend leaving a little extra time. After the sake tasting, it was time to look for souvenirs! Ponshukan is a specialty food store in Niigata, so they have a huge selection 😊 The variety of alcohol is especially amazing! There’s so much to choose from that it’s bound to be overwhelming, so I recommend tasting some to decide which one to buy first . In addition to alcohol, there are also plenty of snacks and condiments on display. You can pour sake into “Ponshuglia” to make a cocktail similar to sangria, mix it with carbonated water to make melon soda or cola, which can be used to replenish iron, and they also have a wide selection of condiments like miso and soy sauce! They also had the “Ishiru” I bought in Kanazawa. The “Garlic Chili Oil” pickled persimmon seeds were sold out, so perhaps the most popular was the “Soy Sauce Castella. ” I was interested in the “Soy Sauce Castella,” but it looked bulky, so I gave up on it. Ponshukan’s original rice crackers seem to be popular. Ponshukan is famous for its sake tasting, but personally, I highly recommend their merchandise as well. Fans of “AKOMEYA” and “Kuse Fuku Shoten” will love it. Now, after a drink, I decided to walk back to the hotel. I came back to the hotel. Dormy Inn Niigata is undergoing renovations in April 2025, but the old-fashioned design remains, more like an apartment or dormitory with an exterior corridor. Before it got too late, I headed to the large public bath on the second floor. It uses water brought in from Iwamuro Onsen. The large public bath seems to have been renovated during the renovation, and it was very clean. There was also a semi-open-air tub, but the view was a bit disappointing. Personally, the biggest disappointment was the sauna! It’s a mist sauna. The sauna temperature was 45°C (sauna?) Naturally, the cold water bath was lukewarm. By the way, the men’s large public bath on the 10th floor also has an open-air bath and a high-temperature dry sauna. For men, or those not interested in saunas, it’s spacious, new, and comfortable. The room I stayed in seemed a little cramped, perhaps because the double room was old. There was also an even smaller economy room (sorry, it was a room I used the next morning). This time, I got a better deal than the official website, so I booked through Rakuten, and it was exactly ¥10,000, including breakfast. Sorry the video isn’t very good, but the bathroom and toilet were the same as usual Dormy Inns. The toilet and bathroom were small, modular, and built like a studio apartment. The refrigerator had the usual complimentary water and white peach jelly. I went to the common area on the 10th floor to heat up some “Italian” food I’d bought for after the sauna, but it was right next to the smoking room and smelled of cigarettes, so I moved to the 8th floor. Personally, I’d prefer the food area and smoking area to be separated. There’s an ice machine, and spoons and forks are provided, too. Dining in the room was also no problem. I took the heated Italian food back to my room and finally, it was time to face it! 😆 Wow! Just as rumored, the yakisoba was topped with tomato sauce! 😆 I thought there were some colorless noodles on the far right, but it was actually white ginger! (It tasted like it was salted?) The yakisoba was topped with pickled ginger! By the way, the accompaniment to the Italian food is Yasuda yogurt! 😊 (So delicious!) I sometimes see it in supermarkets in Tokyo, but it’s expensive, so I always pass it up. 💦 So, let’s eat! Eating it without the tomato sauce, the noodles really tasted like yakisoba! Surprisingly, it matched the tomato sauce perfectly. The noodles were thick, so they didn’t get soggy, and even after reheating, they were still delicious. 😊 I ordered without any modifications, but a local who arrived after me ordered “extra meat sauce.” After tasting it, I was convinced! The sauce was a little less than the noodles. The Italian was ¥440, and adding meat sauce was ¥50, so even with the extras, it still only cost 500 yen It’s amazing how much effort the company puts into providing such a great price, even with accelerating inflation! It’s no wonder that it’s so popular with the people of Niigata 😊 It took quite a while, but of course I ate it all! (I decided not to have the Yonaki Soba noodles.) Before going to bed, I packed up my things and introduced some souvenirs. First, the “Shujin Mochi” I bought at Isetan. It’s a specialty confectionery from “Kanazawa Souhonpo” in Joetsu City. Shujin Mochi is a sweet that looks just like Shingen Mochi, made with kinako mochi and brown sugar syrup, but what makes it unique is that the mochi is made from mugwort. If you’re a fan of Shingen Mochi, you should definitely try comparing the two. Another item I bought at Isetan was this scarf from “Tanaka Embroidery.” It’s a company located in Gosen City, a city famous for its textiles. Embroidered scarves are rare, aren’t they? They’re short, so they don’t take up much space, which is nice. 😊 I bought this at “NIIGATA Etsuhin” on the first floor of Niigata Isetan, which is a collection of hidden gems from Niigata. Not only do they have apparel, but they also have food, miscellaneous goods, and other “good things” from Niigata, so I recommend it. Next, I bought coffee from “BAY STANDARD,” Suzuki Coffee’s shop at Pier Bandai. First, “Yukimuro Coffee.” This coffee is made by aging beans at low temperature in a snow room. From the “Barria Rubica Kamiyama” blend, which seems to have little acidity and just the right amount of bitterness, to the “Suzuki Coffee Honten Blend,” and “Tomesodesan,” which is inspired by the Niigata Furumachi geisha. It’s actually blended by a geisha, and a portion of the sales is donated to cultural preservation. It’s a blend that includes “Geisha” beans, and is deep roasted, rich, and delicious. For those who don’t like bitterness, there is also a blend called “Furisodesan,” so try that! ♪ I’m also looking forward to comparing the “Craft Le Mando Crisp” I bought at “Ub BOURBON” 😊 Happpy Turn, which is only available at Niigata Station, and curry rice crackers at the bus center (recommended) Rice crackers and persimmon seeds pickled in chili oil, which I bought at “Ponshukan ” Purchases at the supermarket “Harashin” (I forgot to take a picture, though) I also bought a chilled ramen.) I bought this ramen instead of a ramen stick, and it comes with extra noodles, so my kids loved it. 😊 I’m happy that I can easily enjoy Niigata’s local ramen at home. 😊 The hegi soba I had for lunch was delicious, so I bought some for home. 😊 It’s dried noodles and compact, so it makes a great souvenir. 😊 By coincidence, it was a product of Kojimaya Sohonten, where I went for lunch. I was attracted by the name “Yahata-ya Isogorou,” so I also recommend this chili rice cracker. My child has been a fan of Yahataya Isogorou since our trip to Nagano, so I bought it as a souvenir, but my mother became addicted to it. 😅 Of course, I also bought “Yamariya Oguni Manju,” which is a famous Harashin product. 😊 I’ll eat it on the Shinkansen back. 😊 I bought some sake and beer for my husband (he said it was delicious). Finally, I finished with the usual local coffee. Well, it’s about time to go to bed. Good night. I enjoyed a relaxing morning bath. Now it’s time for the long-awaited breakfast 😊 When it’s bright, you can clearly see that it’s an outside corridor (…you can see the sky). Dormy Inn is famous for its breakfast with a wide variety of local dishes. I wonder what they’ll have 😊 In addition to the standard Japanese and Western breakfast menu, there are local dishes such as hegi soba and tarekatsudon! The rice is, of course, new Koshihikari rice from Niigata Prefecture 😊 There’s also fried tofu from Tochio 😊 “Nanban shrimp miso soup” has a fragrant shrimp flavor. The “Hegisoba” is portioned out, making it easy to pick up and eat 😊 You can arrange the “tarekatsudon” to your liking! “Tochio’s deep-fried tofu” is plump to look at Noppe is also a local dish of Niigata. Yogurt is the local “Yasuda yogurt” Let’s eat. This is also a sumptuous breakfast. There are a lot of shrimp heads in it The deep-fried tofu was crispy and delicious I regretted that I should have bought it at the supermarket. The Hegi Soba and Tare Katsu Don I had at Kojimaya were better/more delicious. I had dessert too, and now I’m full. I really enjoyed it. My bullet train (Shinkansen) leaves around 11:30, but I left earlier so I could shop in CoCoLo. Well, I’m walking to the station now I’m going to buy the souvenirs I looked at last night. I bought some drinkable yogurt and cream cheese. I also bought some cooler bags, which is great. I was also curious about the Niigata-exclusive Happy Turn and Yasuda Yogurt collaboration product, “Moumou,” which is a collaboration with Hakuryu Sake Brewery, so I bought some. Since I was in Niigata, I wanted to eat some sasamochi (rice dumplings), so I bought some for home. At Ambrebon, they were selling “Craft Le Mande Chocolat,” a chocolate treat that’s only available during the cooler months and wasn’t available yesterday, so of course I bought some. My luggage was already full. 💦 All that’s left now is to head home. I didn’t go to the south exit of Niigata Station this time, so I went to see what it was like, and the south exit was also nicely maintained. Next time, I’d like to explore this side as well. Well, I’m sad to say goodbye, but I’m heading home. 💦 This time, I traveled using JR East’s “Somewhere View-On,” and getting a free Shinkansen ticket for 6,000 points is a godsend for me. 😊 Plus, if you have a discount coupon you can get from using JRE Bank, you can use it for 4,000 points, which is 2,000 points off. 😊 (By the way, I saved about 900 points for my purchases on this trip.) I saved up a lot) and didn’t forget to buy the lunch box I reserved yesterday! The “Engawa Oshizushi” was delicious! There was a massage machine in the waiting area inside the ticket gate, but it was a Hayabusa model! (I gave up because I had a lot of luggage) How was your 2-day, 1-night trip to Niigata using “Dokoka ni Vuoon”? This time, the stay was only a short one-day trip, so I went sightseeing around Niigata Station. If I had time, there were many other places I wanted to visit, so I would definitely like to come back again 😊 Next month, I plan to go to Kyushu on a Solaseed Air award ticket 😊 Solaseed Air miles can be exchanged for V Points, which accumulate at a high return rate, so you can use them fairly quickly, so I recommend it 😊 The exchange rate for miles will decrease from December, but it’s still a good deal ~ On this channel, I enjoy great travel deals using points and miles. .I work full-time, so most of the trips are short, but if you’re interested in casual trips that you can take even on a short break, I’d be happy if you came and watched my videos again 😊 See you next time on my housewife trip 😊 Harashin’s “Oguni Manju” was delicious with plenty of bean paste and the skin had a soy sauce flavor 😊 The canned Yukimuro coffee I bought at Ambrebon wasn’t that great 💦
