Hello, this is siosai. Following on from our feature on cafes in Tenjin and Yakuin, this time we’ll be introducing cafes in the Hakata area. Hakata Ward is located east of the Naka River. Canal City, Hakata Wharf, and Fukuoka Airport are all located in Hakata Ward. We’ve selected cafes near Hakata Station, Gion Station, and Kushida Shrine Station. Please use this as reference for your trip. The Chikushi Exit of Hakata Station is home to offices and government offices. Heading straight from the Chikushi Exit, you’ll find “THE ALLDAY ORTO.” This is the second branch of “ORTO CAFE,” formerly located in Chuo Ward. As the name suggests, it serves everything from breakfast to dinner. It’s close to Hakata Station and has a spacious interior. It’s also great for just having a drink. The green-themed interior is lovely. We’ll walk from “THE ALLDAY ORTO.” This office building was completed in 2022. This location once housed Hakata Star Lane, a mecca for Japanese professional wrestling. Inside the building is FUGLEN, a coffee shop from Oslo, Norway. With several locations in the Tokyo metropolitan area, including Shibuya, this is its first location in Western Japan. FUGLEN coffee was served at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, attracting many Kansai coffee enthusiasts. Recommended for lovers of light roast coffee. This location was rebranded as THE BASICS FUKUOKA after the Hyatt Regency Fukuoka closed. The unique exterior has been preserved. In one corner of the hotel is THE LOCAL COFFEE STAND FUKUOKA, the second location of THE LOCAL in Aoyama, Tokyo, operated by a Japanese coffee-focused online media outlet. Roasters from across Japan are invited as guests, allowing customers to enjoy coffee from all over Japan while in Fukuoka. We’d also like to introduce a store located in a commercial complex near Hakata Station. Marufuku Coffee, a familiar name among Osaka residents, is located on the 4th floor of the Hakata Hankyu building. Unlike other cafes, this one is a full-service cafe. It’s close to the station and serves delicious coffee, so I often visit. They also offer mixed fruit juice. Their iced coffee is strong and delicious. You can also look down on Hakata Station’s rest area and the tracks. This cafe is located in Hakata Marui at KITTE Hakata, next to Hakata Hankyu. REC COFFEE, which also appeared in the Tenjin and Yakuin chapters, offers specialty coffee and desserts from ISON DES RÉCOLTES. You can see the Hakata Exit of Hakata Station from the window. Hakata Ekimae 3-chome is the site of a road collapse accident in 2016. While the area is home to many izakayas, this cafe is open until late at night. Not only is it open until midnight, but it also offers over 10 varieties of cheesecake, making it a unique spot. The name “APOC” is an abbreviation for “A Piece of Cheesecake.” It’s a convenient spot for dessert after a night of drinks in the neighborhood. “AIMAI” is located a 10-minute walk south from Hakata Station along the train tracks. It’s popular for its espresso, sweets, and stylish atmosphere. Its impersonal interior and menu seem to be regularly updated. Trains occasionally pass by outside the window. A branch of “AIMAI” is located near Gion Station. In addition to its home-roasted coffee and sweets, the cafe also features a Japanese-inspired menu and interior. While it’s a stylish cafe, it’s also a popular spot for businesspeople to relax. This is “KUOHKA,” a restaurant area that opened this year in Canal City Hakata. “CITY BAKERY,” a cafe familiar to Fukuoka residents, also opened in a corner of “KUOHKA.” In a previous vlog, I introduced this cafe as “a cafe offering decaf coffee that’s easy to stop by in the evening.” However, as a bakery, it also bustles with activity as a cafe serving homemade bread in the mornings and afternoons. “WHITE GLASS COFFEE” is located a short walk from Canal City Hakata down the street where the TV station is located. This cafe is run by “green bean to bar CHOCOLATE,” a chocolate specialty shop with locations in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka, and also has a branch in Shibuya. Many tourists and local students flock here to enjoy their home-roasted coffee and beautiful lattes. This article introduces “Top 10 Hakata Cafes.” Hakata is the starting point for travel in Fukuoka, and its scenery changes dramatically with the seasons.
