⁴ᴷ Miyazaki: Miyakonojo Station (宮崎県: 都城駅) – Japan Walking Tour (March, 2026)
I’ve decided to head west in search of warmer weather and travel all the way around Kyushu. After driving to Osaka and taking the ferry to Shin-Moji, I’m continuing my journey through the island.
Crossing over from Kagoshima, I’ve arrived in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Shochu enthusiasts might recognize this as the home of Kirishima Shuzo, the brewery behind the famous “Kirishima” brand.
While the city’s heart is in the Nakamachi district, it’s located nearly 2 kilometers from Miyakonojo Station—a bit of a trek on foot. Once there, however, I found a vibrant area filled with restaurants and the impressive “Machinaka Koryu Center.” The sidewalks are lined with nostalgic arcades, and thanks to a local event, the air was filled with the sound of a live band. It was a spirited and lively walk after sunset, quite a departure from the usual quiet evening.
