On the afternoon of July 12, 2026, the “Hikizome” (ceremonial first pull)—an event to move the fully assembled *hoko* floats—took place in central Kyoto ahead of the Gion Festival’s *Saki-matsuri* (early festival) float procession on July 17. As the massive floats began to move to the rhythmic chants of “Enyaraya,” they advanced along Shijo-dori and other streets, their wheels creaking.
