The Tsuchizaki Port Hikiyama Festival is a traditional festival held every year on July 20 and 21 in the Tsuchizaki Port area of Akita City, Akita Prefecture.
It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan and is also inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
With a history of more than 300 years dating back to the Edo period, the festival is held to ward off misfortune and pray for good health and well-being.
