2024年10月に行った島根のツアーのドキュメンタリーです。
テーマは「サステナビリティ」。
日本の地域が直面する少子高齢化社会、過疎化、一極集中、人口減少、空き家などの課題を解決しようとする地元民と触れ、日本という国を赤裸々に写し出していきます。
また、
日本は世界からにどう映っているのか？
世界ではどう同じような社会課題を解決しているのか？
伝統はどのように継承したらいいのか？
などさまざまな視点で議論を深めながら行程を進んでいきます。
旅程は、島根県の安来、鷺浦、日御碕、木綿街道、松江。
地域それぞれの魅力にも触れています。

This is a documentary about our tour in Shimane, Japan in October 2024.
The theme is “Sustainability.
The documentary takes a candid portrait of the country of Japan by touching on the local people who are trying to solve the problems that Japanese regions face, such as the declining birthrate, aging society, depopulation, concentration of population, declining population, and vacant houses.
How does the world view Japan?
How are similar social issues being solved in the world?
How should traditions be handed down?
The itinerary will proceed while deepening discussions from a variety of perspectives, including the following.
The itinerary includes Yasugi, Saginoura, Himizaki, Cotton Road, and Matsue in Shimane Prefecture. We also touch on the charms of each region.

米国メリーランド州生まれ。1964年初来日。
少年期に体験した日本の美しさと失われゆく現状を国内外に訴え、次代へ残すべく、文化芸術活動の推進、講演、執筆活動など幅広く行い、日本各地に残る美しい風景と文化を守り伝える事業を推進。
東祖谷に残る古民家を再生、活用する新しいもてなしの形をプロデュース。
著作に「美しき日本の残像」、「犬と鬼」などがある。

Alex Kerr
Born in Maryland, the U.S. First visit to Japan in 1964.
He appeals in and outside Japan for the need to retain the beauty of Japan and the vanishing current situation he experienced in childhood.
He also extensively promotes the activities of arts, speeches, and writing to leave the next generation. In addition, he also works in business to carry on the tradition of the beautiful scenery and culture in many places around Japan.
He reproduces the new style of hospitality in the old renovated house which remains in the east Iya.
He has written, “Lost Japan” and “Dogs and Demons”.
