岩手県宮古市田老地区の防潮堤。1934年から約45年かけて造られた高さ10m、長さ2.4キロの防潮堤は「万里の長城」と呼ばれる頑丈なものでした。しかし東日本大震災の津波に乗り越えられ、街に大きな被害をもたらしました。震災後、堅牢な防潮堤が再建され、海と共に生きる人々を守っています。
A seawall in the Taro district of Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture. The 10m high and 2.4km long seawall was built over a period of 45 years starting in 1934. It was so sturdy that was nicknamed the “Great Wall of China”. However, it was overcome by the tsunami of the Great East Japan Earthquake and caused great damage to the town. After the earthquake, a robust seawall was rebuilt. It is protecting the people who live alongside the sea.
