南湖公園は、福島県白河市にある日本最古の公園。
享和元年（1801年）、白河藩主の松平定信によって築かれた。
誰もが憩える場として整備されたこの公園は、四季折々の自然美が湖畔を彩る。
時を超えて今日に至るまで市民の憩いの場として愛され続けている。
また、南湖から望む那須連山は絶景だ。
大正13年（1924年）、国の史跡および名勝に指定された。
南湖公園の一角に佇む翠楽苑（すいらくえん）。
平成7年（1995年）に造られた本格的な日本庭園。
面積24,700m2、中央に池、その周囲に遊歩道を設けた回遊式庭園である。
赤松や楓など59種約4,000本が植えられ季節の花々や紅葉などを楽しむことができる。
苑内は、石組や苔、紅葉など和の美意識が細部に息づき、日本文化の粋を体感できる。
数寄屋造りの茶室「松楽亭」から眺める、手入れの行き届いた庭園美が素晴らしい。
歴史と自然、そして静寂が溶け合う南湖公園と翠楽苑。
年間を通し多くの観光客が訪れる白河市を代表する観光スポットの一つとなっている。

Nanko Park is the oldest park in Japan, located in Shirakawa City, Fukushima Prefecture.
It was built in 1801 by Matsudaira Sadanobu, lord of the Shirakawa domain.
The park was developed as a place for everyone to relax, and the lakeside area is decorated with the natural beauty of the four seasons.
The park has been loved by the citizens as a place of relaxation and recreation over the years.
The view of the Nasu Mountains from Minamiko Park is spectacular.
In 1924, the park was designated as a national historic site and a place of scenic beauty.
Suirakuen Garden is located in a corner of Nanko Park.
This is an authentic Japanese garden built in 1995.
It is a 24,700m2 garden with a pond in the center and a promenade around it.
About 4,000 trees of 59 kinds, including red pines and maples, are planted, and you can enjoy seasonal flowers and autumn leaves.
The gardens are filled with the beauty of Japanese culture, with details such as stonework, moss, and autumn leaves.
The beauty of the well-kept garden viewed from the “Shorakutei,” a tea ceremony room in the sukiya style, is magnificent.
History, nature, and serenity blend together in Nanko Park and Suirakuen Garden.
It has become one of Shirakawa City’s representative tourist attractions, visited by many tourists throughout the year.
