Hello, this is KT. From long-established famous restaurants to B-grade gourmet, KT EATS will be introducing 5 of the best Indian curry restaurants that curry lovers will know about. These are all some of the most famous restaurants in the Japanese curry world, so please read to the end. The first restaurant is located right next to the beautiful and historic Kabukiza Theater, which was founded in 1949. It is the oldest Indian restaurant in Japan, loved by Kabuki actors and others for over 70 years. It is so popular that there is always a line, and it is full even at 3pm.Not only is the exterior of the restaurant cute, but the interior is cute too.The first floor looks like this, and the second floor with its magnificent murals is also nice.We were able to enter the restaurant after about a 10 minute wait, but even at this time the restaurant was very busy. The customers are from all over the world and of a wide range of ages.I think the staff are Indian, but even if they look intimidating, they are all very kind and helpful. Many of them speak Japanese, so you can rest assured. This is apparently the “appetizer”.This is called pappal, which appears to be made from lentils. It is lightly salted and as you can see, it is crunchy. The rustic flavor is beautiful.A salad with a refreshing coriander aroma. It contains lettuce, coriander, mizuna, paprika, tomatoes, etc. The most popular dish at Nile Restaurant is the Murgi Lunch. Most customers order this. It comes with a big piece of chicken on the bone, but the staff will remove the bones right in front of you. In addition to the chicken, it is served with cabbage and mashed potatoes. We mix it all together and enjoy . It has a refreshing spiciness and is delicious. The chicken is tender and well seasoned. Murgi Lunch, which has maintained the same taste since its establishment, was started when the founder, AM Nile, started to eat chicken, rice, and mashed potatoes, which were all separate dishes, on one plate. Of course , they are delicious when eaten individually, but the more you mix them together, the tastier the Murgi Lunch becomes. By the way, Murgi means chicken. If it gets too spicy, reset it with this . Lassi, a yogurt drink that has become popular in Japan. This one contains mango and is quite sweet. This one is described as Indian-style stir-fried chickpeas. I tried it with the pappal I had earlier. It’s not spicy, and the slightly sweet chickpeas are delicious. It contains spices, mustard, onions, peppers, tomatoes, garlic, etc., and is full of flavor. This is the mutton curry that I recommend next. It contains large mutton and potatoes. Except for ingredients that can only be obtained in India, all the ingredients, including rice, are produced in Japan, so it is easy to get used to and easy to eat even for those of us who are not used to authentic Indian food . This is quite spicy. The flavor of the mutton is good and the taste is deep. The rich aroma of spices is irresistible. The next restaurant is a famous Indian curry restaurant that has maintained the same taste since it was founded in 1951 in Shibuya, where things are constantly changing. There are about four people waiting before opening time on a weekday. When there is a line, you will be asked to order before entering the restaurant. This feeling of nostalgia and Showa era remains, which is nice. The menu is simple, with only Murgi curry and Hayashi curry. Most people ordered without even looking at the menu. They have yogurt drinks instead of lassi . This is what makes it so good and old-fashioned. It’s refreshing and delicious. The interior is elegant and has a calm atmosphere that reminds you of nostalgia. The staff are kind and polite. This is the signature menu of the restaurant. Most of the customers order this. By the way, this is a large portion and it looks like this compared to the regular portion. This distinctive towering rice was created by the previous owner, who loved mountains, and is based on the image of Mount Everest. It is rich, full-bodied, and has a mild, spicy, and irresistible aroma of spices. Above all, the rice, which is cooked on the hard side, is incredibly delicious. All of the ingredients used are domestic, except for the rice and spices that are not available in Japan. Halfway through, we try changing the flavor with chutney, which is made by simmering fruit and spices and mixing it into the curry to enjoy a sweet, fruity aroma. Japanese-style Indian curry, which was created by giving a Japanese twist to the flavors that the previous owner learned in foreign lands, is truly one of a kind. Once you try it, you’ll want to eat it every time you come to Shibuya. The curry is served with fukujinzuke and pickled ginger. I learned that pickled ginger goes well with curry here. I think the base is the same, but this one has a strong sour and sweet taste from the tomatoes, which is also mellow and delicious. The next restaurant is located very close to Shin-Otsuka Station. It is a popular dhaba-style restaurant, and is a famous restaurant that has been selected as the No. 1 restaurant in Japan by Tabelogin Cuisine Japan and as a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. It is becoming more difficult to make a reservation on weekends, but this time I aimed to go without a reservation before opening on a weekday night. It may be fully booked, so it is safer to make a reservation if you are coming from far away . It is a restaurant with no sign, so it may be difficult to find the restaurant. The landmark is Tiger Jeet Singh at the intersection of Minami-Otsuka-dori Minami. The interior of the restaurant has an elegant and calm atmosphere. On this day, most of the seats were already prepared with reserved table sets. This is the dinner menu, and the menu changes again for lunch. In addition to curry, tandoori dishes are also popular on the menu. Everyone at the restaurant is very kind. There is a time limit of 1.5 hours, but it is enough to enjoy a meal . The food arrived. A luxurious salad with large octopus and plenty of chickpeas . The portion is large and seems to be enough for 3-4 people. I also ordered tandoori chicken. It’s nicely grilled and the aroma is amazing. Two large pieces of chicken. This looks like it will be very filling. I poured a mint and lemon sauce over it. The meat was plump and fragrant. The garlic and spices were very strong. This also had a nice aroma. The very popular cheese kulcha. It’s a dough similar to naan, filled with plenty of cheese. You could see the dough for kulcha and naan being made all the time from the dining area. The dough is always freshly made and baked, isn’t it? The crispy, fragrant, slightly sweet dough and the melted cheese are irresistible. This is a mild curry, the very popular butter chicken curry. It was recommended as the most popular dish at this restaurant, and it is filled with chunks of chicken. Both the curry and rice are very filling. It is not basmati rice, but domestic turmeric rice, and is flavored with cumin. It is a rich and mild butter chicken curry. It is not heavy with butter, and the fresh tomato acidity makes it a terrifying curry that goes down smoothly. This is irresistible. Of course, it is also great with kulcha. This is the regular size of naan. There was also a half size. I ordered this with the popular mutton curry. Usually, Indian curry is served at a temperature that you can eat with your hands, but this curry is piping hot . It has a refined spiciness with a slight kick. It has no distinctive smell and only the delicious flavor of mutton . This is the best! The next restaurant is located in the Ultraman Shopping Street , a place associated with Tsuburaya Productions, very close to Soshigaya-Okura Station. It’s a very fun shopping street with Ultraman motifs everywhere, but this restaurant is a famous Indian curry restaurant run by a chef from a five-star hotel in southern India. The seating arrangement is the same as in India, and the chairs at the tables are not facing each other, but of course there are seats facing each other. This is what I ordered this time. It is a set meal called a meal, which consists of rice, side dishes, curry, soup, and dessert. In addition to lunch meals, there are also single curries and children’s menus, so it is one of the attractions that the whole family can easily enjoy authentic cuisine. They also have a wide selection of alcoholic drinks. It was hot today, so I’ll cool off here as usual. When I come to an Indian restaurant, I want to drink lassi and chai. Srimangalam also has a popular milk coffee called kaapi. By the way, this water is not cold. It is water to moisten the banana leaves. Lunch meals are served on banana leaves. The staff are all cheerful and kind, and will teach you everything, so even if it’s your first time, there is nothing to be worried about. Excess water is poured onto the table. The menu also has cute illustrations like this, with detailed information on how to eat Indian style. The first achar was brought out. From here, dishes were brought out one after another. Lemon achar. This is lemon peel. Next came radish kootu. This is not spicy, and the sweetness of the radish is delicious. This is potato poriyal. It is light in flavor, but when you eat curry, you crave these potatoes and radishes, which is strange. This is the vegetable curry from the veggie meal . It contains drumsticks, eggplant, bitter melon, and other vegetables that are known as superfoods. This curry has a refreshing tomato sourness and the aroma of spices, and it goes well with Indian basmati rice. The soup has a sour tomato flavor, and although some restaurants serve it as a spicy dish, it is not spicy. It’s also delicious poured over rice. It’s a milky zenzai-like dessert called payasam, which contains very thin pasta called cashew nuts, tapioca, and vermicelli. This is a complimentary curry, and the owner, Maha, makes whatever he wants to eat that day. The daily special for this day is chicken curry from Chettinad, Maha’s hometown. The chicken is tender and mellow with the aroma of spices and the spicy heat, which is addictively delicious. You can have all three types of curry for lunch meals , but the curries will mix together, so I only had the mutton. This is the familiar pappad with rice flour and appalaam, which completes most of the dishes. And what’s more, you can have as many refills as you like of all the dishes. You can enjoy India to your heart’s content. The table condiments are salt, yellow bean sprinkles, and curd chili . You can change the taste and eat it until the end without getting bored. If you like spicy food, I recommend this curd chili. I immediately had a second helping. Next, I had chicken curry and fish curry. All the dishes are not that spicy, simple and surprisingly light, and extremely delicious. I don’t eat with my hands anywhere else, but when I come here, I want to eat with my hands. Like rice balls, eating with your hands makes it taste even better. Of course, there is cutlery on the table, so don’t worry. The staff are always calling out to you, so everyone naturally smiles. It’s not only delicious, but also fun and filling. When you’re done eating, you fold the banana leaf toward you and you’re done. It was a very satisfying feast lunch. I paid at the cash register and received fennel, the Indian version of Friskies. There are many long-established restaurants that represent Tokyo around Ueno Station, which has a history of 140 years, but the next restaurant is also an important player in the history of Japanese curry . Founded in 1956. It is Japan’s first Indian curry restaurant, which has maintained the same taste and will soon be celebrating its 70th anniversary. I entered the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is very small. There is a large Ginza store, but this restaurant, which is the birthplace of Delhi, is crowded with fans from all over the country. Here is the menu. There are many types of curry, including mild curry and more spicy curry. This time I ordered a set. There are three types of sets in Delhi. This is the salad that comes with the special set. This set also comes with rasam, a tomato soup that is drunk daily in southern India. It is spicy and has a sour taste of tomatoes and a strong spiciness. It is delicious. The Kashmiri curry, which is synonymous with Delhi, has arrived . It has nothing to do with the Kashmir region of India, and in Japan, black and smooth curry is called Kashmiri curry. This is the original rice, which I ordered in a large serving. The difference from the normal one is about this much. Onions fried to a nearly black amber color and bouillon that are fried to the limit of moisture without using flour or sugar, and more than 20 types of spices are simmered slowly. The rich flavor and umami that has been preserved since the establishment of the restaurant . The slight bitterness and aroma of spices are the best. The spiciness comes over later, but it’s not just hot and stinging, but the spiciness is also delicious and you can’t stop eating the spoon. The onion and cucumber achar on the table is refreshing and delicious. This recipe was invented by the first wife at the time. This is what you get when it gets spicy. The drink in the set was mango lassi. This is the chicken and salad from the tandoori chicken set. There is also a single tandoori chicken tikka. The chicken thighs are marinated in spices and yogurt. They are soft, juicy and extremely delicious. This is the first time I’ve had curry in the tandoori chicken set. I tried the Bengali curry. It’s not thick and it’s also full of large vegetables and shrimp. The Bengal is not too spicy, and has a strong tomato acidity and umami flavor, making it mellow and delicious. I chose Indian tea as the drink in the set. It is a spiced milk tea that is common in Indian restaurants . Many restaurants serve it very sweet, but this one is not too sweet and you can adjust the sweetness with syrup, which is nice. Finally, there is one more restaurant. This is a standing soba restaurant, so I cannot introduce it as a famous Indian curry restaurant, but if you hear about a good Indian curry restaurant, I think standing-up eaters will think of this place right away. First, I buy a meal ticket. This restaurant has a large menu, so I am always distracted, but I always order the curry . In 2022, it even won a curry award. To be honest, I can’t describe the charm of Yomoda Soba here. I would like to introduce it to you to the fullest in the soba video, but if you come here for the curry, It’s true that there are a lot of customers, but you wouldn’t think you’d get such authentic curry at a stand-up soba restaurant. The large chicken thighs on the bone are stewed so tender that they can be torn apart with a spoon. The key is that it’s made with Yomoda Soba’s proud sauce as the base. The aroma of spices and the acidity of tomatoes are mellow and rich, and it’s the best. Is it okay to eat it so casually? This is why I can’t stop eating stand-up soba. So, what did you think of these 5 Tokyo Indian curries? I’m not particularly good with spicy food, but now I’m completely captivated by the magic of spices. If you think it looks delicious, please give it a thumbs up. If you’re a spice lover who thinks “Kashmiri curry is always very, very hot,” please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel!
