Hello, this is Seaman. I’m currently driving on the Tohoku Expressway. *Tatebayashi Interchange Today, I’m heading to Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture. Kumagaya is famous for its delicious udon (Kumagaya Udon), and as an udon lover, it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. I’ve arrived in Kumagaya, a place I really wanted to visit before summer. Kumagaya City. Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture holds the record for Japan’s highest temperature, and its catchphrase “It’s hot! Kumagaya!!” is well-known. I can’t possibly ride my motorcycle in the summer, so I wanted to visit before then. (Kumagaya often exceeds 40°C almost daily in summer.) Anyway, since the udon shop isn’t open yet, let’s go to a nearby shrine for safe childbirth, haha. Oh, this is it. Japan’s longest omikuji (fortune slip)… I’ll try it, haha. It’s out! It’s too long!!!! I got “Kichi” (good luck) again. I never get “Daikichi” (great luck), do I? *In Japan, there’s a custom of tying omikuji to trees to “tie” a connection with the gods. Well, it means my luck is going to improve, so that’s good. Until my udon shop of choice opens, I think I’ll go play at the BESS exhibition hall. I had been invited to “come see the new house that’s been built in Kumagaya” for a while now. Speaking of which, they said it would be cold today, but it’s 10 AM right now. Kumagaya is quite hot, haha. Oh, is this the place? It’s been ages since I’ve been to a BESS exhibition hall! This entrance always makes me excited. To the reception! *BESS has 32 house exhibition halls nationwide. *No reservation is required for BESS exhibition halls. You can easily visit even if you’re not considering buying a house. Alright, let’s go see the new house right away. I like how the staff doesn’t follow you around here. *Fool’s Box I might quite like the distinctive exterior walls! Apparently, it’s modeled after an armadillo. I’ll go inside now. Perhaps because I’m Japanese, I’m drawn to the engawa (veranda). (Traditional Japanese houses have a unique feature called “engawa,” which refers to the part of the house’s edge that extends outdoors.) The large windows also feel nice. For me, living in a 40-year-old house, a kitchen like this is something I truly long for. A house where somewhat silly sounds echo. The BESS exhibition hall is always a great place to learn about interior design. I’ll go up to the second floor. The second floor feels like a secret base. The triangular ceiling has a great feel to it. The scent of wood is comforting. I love how the windows are all different shapes and have a free-spirited feel. I’m glad I came to see this new house. Let’s go take a look at some other houses. Since I saw the BESS exhibition hall in Tama (LOGWAY BESS Tama), my absolute favorite has been the “Hodo Hodo no Ie” (Moderately Sized House). I love its Japanese-style design, reminiscent of Taisho Roman. Ah, was I not supposed to open this? Haha. Oh, good taste. I really love the old-fashioned feel of the Taisho and Showa eras. I still yearn for a house with a wood-burning stove, you know? And naturally, I’m curious about the kitchen’s interior. Recipes written in an unknown language… I see, to create a stylish interior, I just need to place recipes in an unreadable language… …Probably… not… Well, shall we go? It looks like it’s going to rain a bit. The forecast said rain from the evening, so I came a bit early, but… Rain, please don’t fall… Well then, I’m hungry, so I’m rushing to the udon shop. Here it is! I don’t know where the parking lot is, so I’ll go ask the people at the shop! They said it’s okay to park right in front of the store! I’ve always wanted to come here. It’s crowded!! What should I eat? Let’s eat! Ah, this is too delicious! The soy sauce broth is incredibly rich and delicious, but… more than anything, the noodles are incredibly tasty! I should’ve chosen a tatami seat (even though they said, “Feel free to film!”) It’s seriously delicious, so if you come to Kumagaya, you definitely have to try it! Thank you for the meal. Now, I’ll head back before it rains. Fukusuke, I’m home. Your eye boogers are really bad today. I didn’t have time to buy beer today, so I’ll have this. It’s “Uchouten Aliens,” which my friend told me about. It’s so delicious, I’m hooked! *Sold at 7-Eleven. You’re mad, aren’t you? Fukusuke gets a little angry when I point the camera at him.
