Today I came to Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture! This is Yuyu’s first landing in Tohoku. We will be sightseeing in Miyagi Prefecture for 2 days and 1 night. On the first day, we will sightsee in Sendai, then stay overnight at Akiu Onsen, and on the second day, we will sightsee in Matsushima, one of Japan’s three most scenic spots. The streets of Sendai are similar to Hachioji in Tokyo. Many buses stop at the large bus rotary. There are also plenty of buses, so it seems convenient to use them for sightseeing. I came to Sendai morning market. A nice fishy smell. It smells fishy, ​​or rather, it smells like seafood. Please note that we are closed on Sundays and public holidays. There are also quite a few foreign tourists. There are plenty of fresh fish, seasonal vegetables and fruits. This is where Raul the snowman hit his head. You’re so tall. I stopped by a croquette shop that had a long line of people waiting in the Sendai morning market shopping district. This fried food shop has been in business for 60 years, and is so popular that there are always lines of people waiting in line as soon as it opens. Everything looks delicious. I want to eat potato croquettes. I bought croquettes and quail eggs. The sweetness of potatoes is very strong. The potatoes are made into a paste and have a smooth texture. It’s delicious even without sauce. I also eat quail eggs. The clothes are crispy. Yuumi I like quail eggs. If it’s on a Chinese bowl, save it until the end. It was so delicious that it’s no surprise that there was a long line. It’s nice to have a morning market like this near your home because you can do your usual shopping here. Now that I can handle the fish myself, I want to buy a whole fish. I came to the oyster shop at the entrance of Sendai Morning Market. It operates as a pub at night and sells oysters at the store during the day. One medium-sized raw oyster costs 350 yen, and one small-sized oyster costs 250 yen. Eat with lemon juice and ponzu sauce. Ah, so good! I was charged with power. Oyster charge. Medium size. I can feel the taste of the sea. Very satisfied! Thank you for the meal! Go to Sendai Station East Exit to rent a car. Sendai also has to wait on the left for the escalator. The only place to wait on the right is Osaka. No, it’s all over Japan. This time we rented a car, but there are sightseeing buses operating in central Sendai. One-day passes are also available, so you can also use public transportation to sightsee. Zuihoden. It’s a solemn atmosphere. It’s good that it’s morning. It feels good to visit the shrine in the morning. That’s what I said when I was in the Ikaho hot spring town. It makes you feel like you did something good. Zuihoden, that’s a cool name. There is a historical figure who speaks of Sendai, but do you know who he is? I saw it first. It’s Date Masamune. He was the first lord of the Sendai domain who built the foundation of the domain. I learned it a long time ago, but I’ve forgotten it. Zuihoden is the mausoleum where Date Masamune is buried. Date Masamune’s grave. Well, that’s true. The name of this place is amazing. The name of the place, Reiyashita, is a little scary. It feels like it’s coming full circle. There are many stairs, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes. It’s easier on the slope. If you have a staircase where each step is wide, the burden will be disproportionately placed on one leg. I wish I could switch legs for climbing the stairs. Admission tickets are 570 yen for adults. If you come to Zuihoden by car, you can park for free in the private parking lot by showing your admission ticket. The water is cold. Nirvana Gate Nirvana is the gate that removes earthly desires and enters the realm of enlightenment. It is the boundary between this world and the afterlife. You cannot pass through Nirvana Gate, so go through the door on the side of the gate. We arrived at Zuihoden. Zuihoden, the mausoleum where Date Masamune is buried, is characterized by its beautiful decoration and solemn atmosphere. It had just completed a major renovation in April 2023, and it was so luxurious and beautiful that it was hard to believe that it was built a long time ago. Lacquer and pigments are used for decoration, and even the details are brightly colored, influenced by Momoyama culture. The walls are decorated in detail. I came here to eat Sendai’s famous beef tongue grill. I came to Umami Tasuke, which is one of Sendai’s grilled beef tongue restaurants that is especially popular among locals. Even though I arrived before the store opened, there was already a line. They’re really lined up. Even though it was only 10 minutes before the store opened, there were about 40 people in line, including the people behind me. It’s my first time eating Sendai beef tongue, so I’m really looking forward to it. In addition to beef tongue, eel and sake are also available. Today’s beef tongue seems to be from Canada. In fact, most of the beef tongue eaten in Sendai seems to be produced overseas. Keishiro Sano, the first owner of Umami Tasuke, invented the salted beef tongue. I had a set meal that included beef tongue, tail soup, and barley rice. First, take a sip of the soup. I want to put rice in this. This is my first time trying authentic beef tongue. I’ll enjoy having this! delicious! Although it’s thick, it’s soft enough to bite into easily. There are notches to make it easier to bite into. Why is it so soft? The amount of salt is just right. It’s different from Yakiniku beef tongue. I should have had a large serving of rice. Instead of converting small items into one piece, they put one extra piece in. I want to have this set meal for dinner every day. Thank you for the meal! The turnover rate is fast, so there may not be a line after the restaurant opens. Very satisfied! It was absolutely delicious! I would like to say this to those who gave up after seeing the line before the store opened: The turnover rate is surprisingly fast, so there isn’t that long of a line. You should eat it even if you have to wait a little bit! A Japanese sweets shop representing Sendai. This shop is famous for its brown sugar manju and zunda mochi. Would you like to try Sendai’s famous zunda sweets? The first floor is a Japanese sweets shop, and there is a cafe space on part of the first floor and on the second floor. Cafe space on the first floor. Zunda mochi is topped with plenty of zunda bean paste. Zunda, delicious! Zunda is so delicious. It’s sweeter than I expected. I want to scrape up as much as I can and eat it. It’s best to have salted kelp as a palate cleanser. It’s so delicious to eat sweet and salty foods alternately. It also comes with black bean tea. Ah, it’s delicious. Zunda has quite the taste of edamame. The flavor of edamame is delicious. The mochi is really soft. Salted kelp is delicious! The combination of salted kelp, zunda mochi, and black bean tea is the best! Thank you for the meal! I came to the Sendai Castle ruins. There was a castle in Sendai. The castle no longer exists. It’s now the remains of Sendai Castle. How many million koku do you think the Sengoku clan built? It’s called Kaga Hyakumangoku. The correct answer is 620,000 koku. Sendai Castle Ruins Sendai Castle was occupied by Date Masamune in the early 17th century, and was the residence of the Date clan of the Sendai domain for about 270 years until the Meiji era. Found the Date Masamune statue! The statue is cool, but when you look at the face close up, it’s not so cool. That’s lame. Do you know the other name of Date Masamune? It seems like it’s called by another name. It was called the one-eyed dragon. I don’t know at all. It’s a pretty famous story. When Masamune Date was a child, he lost sight in one eye due to an illness. It’s not hard to see in the bronze statue, but he was wearing an eyepatch over one eye. Because he wore an eyepatch over one eye, he was nicknamed the One-Eyed Dragon. The first lord of the Sengoku domain, who built the foundation of 620,000 koku. He was a military commander from the Sengoku period who overcame many hardships and fought alongside other rulers such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. He is a very talented person. You can get a panoramic view of Sendai city from the castle tower, where the statue of Date Masamune on horseback stands. Sendai is a big city. There’s a river you can see right in front of you. That river was one of the reasons Date Masamune wanted to build a castle here. Rivers make it difficult to attack, so it is said that by building a castle near a river, you can limit the directions from which you can attack. Sendai Castle does not have a castle tower, but instead a large hall was built as the castle’s central facility. Currently, the remains have been restored as the remains of the Great Hall. I came to a shrine built on the ruins of Sendai Castle’s main enclosure. The shrine here is really beautiful. A place to visit. Date Masamune is also depicted on the ema. Let’s go into the souvenir shop next door. It tastes like potato zunda. I want to try it! Should I buy it? It’s like beef tongue flavored potato chips. All of the Tohoku-only flavored sweets look delicious. DATEMASAMUNE. Products that look like Ralph Lauren are on sale. I came to Chris Road shopping district. I came to the Abe Kamaboko store, a long-established store selling Sasa Kamaboko, a specialty of Sendai. The bamboo kamaboko is made using a traditional method and has a fluffy texture, making it a popular souvenir. At this shop, you can try your hand at baking your own food on the spot. It will be baked in about 10 minutes. It will expand when baked. Looks like mochi. You can also pretend to be a magician. It was baked nicely. delicious! Kamaboko has such a strong flavor. Even though it’s kamaboko, it’s juicy. It expands like this when you bake it. Thank you for the meal! National Treasure Osaki Hachimangu Shrine. It was built in 1607 by order of Date Masamune. You can see the oldest existing Gongen-style building from the Azuchi-Momoyama period. It is a building that most represents the “Date” culture, expressing the thinking of Date Masamune. Comedian Date from Sandwich Man is also from Miyagi Prefecture. There are a lot of people in Tohoku with the surname Date. If you go back in time, you might be related to Date Masamune. It’s a building that gives you a sense of the times. The long approach path is beautiful. It’s an ema from a team related to Sendai. The Daruma dolls in Sendai are blue. Your eyebrows are bushy. There is a glittering phoenix-like decoration on the roof. I will visit the shrine. It’s about 4pm now. I spent a day touring Sendai. Satisfied with the food. Satisfied with Date.
