驚愕!レトロ市場で見つけた驚きグルメ。大阪千林商店街の奇跡。
[Music] Hello. Retro Guy here. This is Senbashi Shopping Street in Osaka City’s Asahi Ward. Senbashi Shopping Street is one of Osaka’s three major shopping streets. It’s a shopping street for the common people, representing Osaka. It’s full of retro shops and extremely cheap stores. You can really get a feel for Osaka, and it’s a great place for food tours. First, I’ll introduce you to a super cheap takoyaki shop in front of the station. Right here, right here. This octopus shop. It’s an incredibly popular shop that always has a line. [Music] You’ll be surprised at how much they still sell at Showa-era prices. Look, eight pieces for 200 yen. Osaka takoyaki is not only cheap, but also incredibly delicious. Next, I’ll take you to a Showa-era retro coffee shop. It’s at the end of this alley. It opened in the 1940s and has been in business for over 70 years. A coffee shop reunion. A famous shop reminiscent of the Showa era. Its storefront is in a Showa-era business district. The interior is pure Showa retro. Wooden walls, tables, chairs and a counter. If you’re a fan of retro cafes, the atmosphere is simply electrifying. This photo captures the atmosphere of 40-50 years ago. This is a plate that the owner proudly displayed in the cafe. The menu is also great. It’s full of Showa-era atmosphere. [Music] This is Osaka’s famous mixed juice. It’s addictive. I ordered the shop’s specialty egg sandwich and a cold coke. In Osaka, iced coffee is called “cold coke.” The egg sandwich here is filled with a traditional thick omelet. The egg is fluffy and juicy. Delicious. [Music] The inside of the egg was fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth, perfect . [Music] If you’re in Senri, be sure to stop by Saiwai. Their delicious egg sandwich awaits you. The shopping street is connected to many other shopping streets. There are many other coffee shops, but I’d like to introduce another famous one: Cafe ABC. This shop is known for its delicious coffee. And this shop faces the Edo-period highway. Because it’s along the old highway, there are still many old townscapes remaining in this area. Just one street off the shopping street in Senri, you’ll find a nostalgic landscape. Just a 20-minute drive from Osaka Station, you’ll find a landscape that’s hard to believe is in Osaka city. This is the Senbayashi tenement house, designated an urban landscape resource by Osaka City. Many such tenement houses remained in Osaka city in the past . This area retains a strong sense of old downtown atmosphere . Many such nostalgic scenes still remain around Senbayashi. There are also many Jizo statues in the area. When you were a child, didn’t you receive lots of cheap sweets during Jizo Bon ? It’s a fond memory. There’s also a magnificent temple that seems to have a rich history. If you’re visiting as a tourist, simply walking through the shopping arcade is enjoyable enough, but exploring the surrounding streets will give you a better sense of Osaka’s downtown atmosphere. Now, let’s return to the shopping arcade. Senbayashi Shopping Arcade has always been full of vitality. It represents the city of Osaka and its merchants . The location of this pharmacy is where Super Daiei first opened . This is Imaichi Shopping Arcade, connected to Senbayashi Shopping Arcade. This is the former site of the public market. Perhaps because of this, there are many grocery stores. This is also a bargain market. Look. This is a freshly baked bakery selling bread for 99 yen. This is it. 99 yen bread. Black bean bread. Even though it’s only 99 yen, it’s packed with red bean paste. This area is bustling with greengrocers and fishmongers. Senri Shopping Street is home to many long-established shops. From women’s clothing to stationery. Chikara mochi, a staple in downtown areas. Unfortunately, the restaurant here has closed, and it only offers takeout mochi. It used to be a shoe store, but it now sells antique goods. [Music] This is a shop you just want to pop into. It’s amazing. [Music] I found a unique shop. It sells accessories and natural stones. Natural stones are quietly booming right now. This is amazing. While I was talking with the owner, he showed me something interesting. It’s a method of purifying a room. It involves lighting a fire using white sage grown on sacred land by Native Americans, and then smoking it with smoke to purify the room. Natural stone enthusiasts believe that natural stones have the power to absorb evil spirits. The end of the arcade faces National Route 1. [Music] The arcade disappears beyond Route 1, but the shopping street continues. Senri Shopping Street alone boasts approximately 200 shops, and the surrounding shopping streets and stores account for approximately 400. So, there are some unique shops. There’s also a public bath. I like to take a bath and then have a beer. This is a Japanese confectionery shop with a reputation for its deliciousness. This is the main branch of Houraido. Their dorayaki ( red bean paste and butter pancakes) are known for their deliciousness. This, this, and this. There were many other delicious Japanese sweets. The an-butter dorayaki (red bean paste and butter pancakes) were not too sweet and had a refined flavor. Near the confectionery shop, I found a shop that is typical of Senri. It’s an eel restaurant. The store is neat and looks like it opened recently. This sign really struck a chord with me. Wow, domestically-produced eel is only 1,800 yen. This is typical of Senbayashi. Nowadays, eel is usually priced at 3,000 or 4,000 yen, so this is a must-try. They claim it’s 100% Japanese eel. This is the menu for an eel specialty restaurant. Here we go. 1,800 yen eel. The eel is tender. Let’s eat. Yes. No doubt about it. Delicious. Speaking of eel, sake is the first thing. Tedorigawa, a dry local sake from Ishikawa Prefecture. Oh, and a quick surface tension challenge. Delicious. [Music] [Music] They also recommend the unachazuke. I had that halfway through. It can’t be bad, right? Ippukudo. It’s a restaurant that can only be found in Senri. As an Osaka resident, I want people all over the country, and even the whole world, to know about this town. Senri is
