主婦旅〜初新潟・どこかにビューーンでひとり旅〜シェアサイクルで巡る新潟グルメ&観光 #japantravel #niigata

This time, my housewife trip is “Niigata Edition” I’ll be using the “Woo-oon” Shinkansen to go somewhere, and the fare for the Shinkansen is free. I’ll go from “Joetsu Myoko”, “Sakuranbo Higashine”, “Shizukuishi” and “Niigata” to Niigata, and I’m happy because it was my first choice 😊 My stay will be short, but I’m going with enthusiasm! The Shinkansen “Toki” to Niigata was non-stop except for Omiya, and it only took an hour and a half one way. We were off in no time! The good thing about traveling by train is that it’s different from flying. When I arrived in Niigata, I planned to have dinner right away. Breakfast was modest, and just when I thought the scenery had changed… I arrived in no time 😊 This is my first time in Niigata. Niigata Station seems to have been renovated in 2024, so I immediately found some ekiben at NewDays inside the ticket gate! I was planning to buy some on my way home, but some items were in limited supply… I was planning to have it for dinner tomorrow, so I made a reservation just in case😊 I secured my bento and headed to a restaurant. Since it was Sunday, I wanted to go before it got too crowded, so this time I chose a restaurant in the station building. Niigata is famous for its tarekatsudon, but the popular “Tonkatsu Taro” already had a line💦 (I wonder if that’s okay…) The restaurant I was looking for was “Echigo Nagaoka Kojimaya,” located in Ekinan Kitchen on the first floor of the station building CoCoLo WEST. It’s famous for its hegi soba, and has its main store in Nagaoka. I arrived at 11am when it opened, and was the eighth person in line to get in. There are counter seats, so it’s easy for solo diners to sit underneath, and I was able to get in right away. 😊 In addition to hegi soba, they have a wide variety of menu items, and they even have “tarekatsudon”! It’s great for travelers to be able to try all of Niigata’s specialties at once😊 The set menu is adjusted to one portion, so it’s a relief. By the way, they also have a wide selection of sake, which is a Niigata specialty, and many people enjoyed sake with their soba . This set includes a tarekatsudon (pork cutlet bowl) and hegi soba (soba noodles). The sauce-soaked pork cutlet and the glossy soba noodles are irresistible! 😆 The “hegi” in hegi soba refers to this square bowl, made from peeled wood. The soba noodles are bound together with “funori” seaweed, resulting in a springy, smooth texture. The soba noodles are individually rolled and neatly arranged. Apparently influenced by Niigata’s textile culture, this was my first time trying it, and just as rumored, they were chewy and delicious! 😊 The “tarekatsudon” differs from a regular katsudon in that it’s topped with a thin cutlet smothered in a sweet and spicy sauce. Because it’s not topped with egg, the cutlet is crispy. 😊 It ‘s not at all greasy, which is impressive! 😆 I also enjoyed the soba soup, which was very satisfying! 😆 Before heading out for sightseeing, I checked my luggage in at the hotel. By the way, I’m staying at Dormy Inn again! Don’t forget to get a stamp with Ekitag (I’m quietly collecting them). Niigata Station seems to have been renovated, but the Bandai Plaza exit is still under construction. The bus rotary was spacious and convenient, but I’m looking forward to my next visit (it’s cloudy). I arrived at “Dormy Inn Niigata.” It’s not far, about a 6-7 minute walk from the station, but it can be a bit of a hassle if the weather is bad. 💦 I left my luggage at the hotel and started sightseeing immediately. As with my trip to Kanazawa last month, I used a shared bicycle to get around. There was no port very close to the hotel, so I returned to the station. Like Kanazawa, I was able to use Docomo’s shared bicycles in Niigata. For dessert after my meal, I went to “Rustica Cafe Italia.” This restaurant serves Tuscan cuisine, but their gelato is also popular. The cute gelato, presented like a rose, is apparently popular. They also have seasonal flavors. I tried the milk and pomegranate flavor, and the shape and color are cute. 😆 Pomegranate alone is sweet and sour, while milk alone is gently sweet. Eating them together creates a different flavor combination that you can enjoy in various ways. 😆 They also sell olive oil, so olive oil gelato seems to be popular. They say they increase the number of chocolate flavors in winter. They have a wide variety of cafe menu items, including unusual dishes such as balsamic soda, and a lunch course. Locals were enjoying their drinks and leisurely meals, and they also serve light meals like paninis, so it’s a great place for a short break 😆 I headed to the nearby Isetan in search of the souvenir I was looking for. Everywhere in Niigata has bicycle parking areas, making it easy to get around. The “Dejimachi” I was looking for was the last one 💦 After successfully getting it, I headed to Shirakabe-dori, a charming street with white walls and cobblestones. On the way, I also visited the “Bandai Bridge,” an important cultural property. It is the longest bridge in Japan spanning the “Shinano River” and is a symbol of Niigata. When you cross the bridge by bicycle, you get so close to the river surface that it’s impressive. It’s famous for its Murakami beef hamburger steak. After checking out Bistro Tsubaki, we arrived at Shirakabe Street. There were many kaiseki restaurants lined up, but it wasn’t a tourist destination and there were no souvenir shops. It was more like enjoying the townscape. 😊 The former Saito family villa, which I had been planning to stop by if I had time, was bustling, so I decided to take a look. I heard that the garden has been designated as a nationally designated scenic spot, so I’m looking forward to it. 😆 There was also a designated free bicycle parking lot nearby. The building is said to be thorough implementation of the idea of ”teiokuichinyo,” where the garden and building are integrated. You can also have tea while looking at the beautiful garden. There are many ingenious features, such as a lucky crane painted on the edge of the tatami mat. The guide’s explanation was excellent and everyone listened intently. They also give tours of the museum, so it’s recommended to go with plenty of time. The garden makes good use of the sand dunes and is full of undulating scenery. It’s wonderful to be the scenery change with the seasons, from autumn leaves to snow. The guide’s stories are really fun, so be sure to experience it. It’s a 15-minute bike ride to the observation deck at Toki Messe. “What’s Michael?” brings back memories 😆 Apparently the author is from Niigata. We arrived at Toki Messe and the “Befco Baka-uke Observatory,” our destination, is on the 31st floor, 125 meters above ground. It’s free 😆 There’s also a souvenir shop where you can buy souvenirs like bakauke, as the name suggests. There’s also a cafe, so it’s nice to relax while looking at the view. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day, but… it was quite a view 😆 Just below, you can see the Shinano River Bandai Bridge clearly . From another direction, you can look down on Niigata Port, where boats to Sado Island depart and arrive. Sado Island is also a place I’d like to visit someday. You can enjoy a 360-degree view. It’s open until 10pm, so you can also enjoy the night view 😊 In addition to bakauke, the souvenir shop also stocks Niigata’s traditional crafts and standard souvenirs such as the very popular “kaki no tane oil pickled” (persimmon seeds). I was very satisfied with the wide selection, which I couldn’t believe was free 😊 Next, I headed to Minato Marche Pier Bandai in search of seafood. It was a 5-minute bicycle ride to Pier Bandai. There was a cheesy bike port, so I returned it. Pier Bandai is full of shops and restaurants where you can buy local produce. I was immediately greeted by fresh-looking crab 😊 Many locals were there too. There was a wide variety of ready-to-eat dishes, such as side dishes , and above all… the sushi was amazing 😆 There are so many lined up (they’re definitely delicious) and there was also a seafood bowl. It would be fun to buy some and eat it at the hotel . If you’re looking for seafood souvenirs, this is the place to go (the POP is interesting 🤣). We came to “Pikari Farm Market Otomi-san”, which sells locally grown vegetables and other items. The store is lively with Halloween decorations 😆 The store is filled with locally grown vegetables and fruits and seems to be popular with locals too. There are also lots of souvenirs , and the atmosphere is like a roadside station, which is fun 😊 There were souvenirs that I hadn’t seen anywhere else, so if you have time, be sure to stop by. I went in without hesitation. 😊 Even at this time, the restaurant was almost full. The menu looked like this. There were many local ingredients, which tourists would love. The set menu is also great, but… the good thing about conveyor-belt sushi is that you can casually choose what you like. 😊 There were quite a few solo customers. I splurged and got the blackthroat seaperch. 😆 The shrimp were shiny and delicious. The squid from Sado was chewy and delicious. 😆 My favorite flounder. Sado filefish liver topping and red sea bream. Enjoying local produce in the local area is one of the joys of traveling. 😊 Everything was fresh and delicious. 😊 There was also a stand-up eatery called Benkei (which also opened a store at Ecute Ueno this year). For an after-meal coffee, I went to the local “Suzuki Coffee.” There are several shops in Pier Bandai, but I chose “BAROQUE,” a cafe latte specialty shop. As expected from a specialty shop, I chose “BAROQUE.” They also had a selection of espresso beans. As the temperature dropped in the evening, a warm cafe latte warmed my body. 😊 I don’t usually drink lattes with latte art, so it felt special. 😊 I recommend this shop for a break from sightseeing. 😊 If you want to buy coffee beans, head to “BAY” across the street. I thought I was heading to “STANDARD” because it’s a tourist spot, but it turned out to be a genuine shop with about 50 types of coffee beans on display. It’s a must-see for coffee lovers 😆 It’s fun to look at all the different types of beans ♪ It’s exciting 😊 Not only were there beans, but there were also drip packs and stylish coffee equipment lined up. Of course, you can also get coffee in the shop (the soft serve ice cream looked delicious 😆). After much deliberation, I purchased four types of beans. I received a service voucher when I ordered a latte, so they gave me 20g of each for free. I was also thinking about drinking drip coffee, and as part of the Rilo Club discount, they offered free coffee, so I asked if I could use that voucher in conjunction with the one I had earlier, and to my surprise it was OK, so I was grateful to receive a free coffee. How generous! I will definitely come again 😆 Now, let’s head to the hotel. This is the end of the first part of the Niigata edition, as it’s getting long. In the second part, I’d like to focus on the hotel and souvenir hunting. If you’re interested in what happens next, please subscribe to my channel and wait for it 😊 Well, here it is, Part 2 of the Niigata edition 😆
