What a nice contrast compared to Japan's huge mega cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, Nagoya, etc. So much more relaxed, calm and peaceful in these smaller cities like Toyama. While the huge Japanese cities are very vibrant, that constant hustle and bustle of crowds everywhere you go (both foreign tourists as well as locals) gets old after a while. Also, as I tourist who travels to Japan fairly often, it's become obvious to me that huge cities all over the world are pretty much the same. The old saying "you've seen one, you've seen them all" is very true. In my future travels to Japan, I plan to start visiting only smaller cities such as Toyama to get a better feel for what Japan is really like outside of the huge metropolitan areas.
