Most Famous Beef Tongue in Osaka 🇯🇵 Woniku Nakatsu

Japan consumes about 50,000 tons of beef tongue every year.
That is roughly half of the world’s total consumption.

Sendai is known as the beef tongue capital and accounts for around 10% of Japan’s consumption. Beef tongue has become a staple at Yakiniku restaurants across the country and is often the first order of the night.

Despite the popularity of “Wagyu Tongue,” most of the Tongue eaten in Japan does not come from Wagyu cattle. Domestic production is limited, and more than 97% of the tongue consumed in Japan is imported, mainly from the United States and Australia.

In this video we visited Nakatsu WoNiku in Osaka, a reservation only restaurant known for its thick cut tongue course. The chef grills Black Angus tongue over charcoal and carves it directly in front of the guests.
