最近の京都地方は非常に厳しい暑さが続いております。日中に外出される際は、熱中症などに十分に警戒し、くれぐれも無理をなさらないようにお気をつけください。さて、昨晩の配信では愛媛県松山の情緒ある雰囲気や、かつて私が滞在していた新潟の古町の思い出話などで大変盛り上がりましたが、本日の「ご当地ソング全国漫遊47」の舞台は、四国・高知県でございます。
高知県のご当地ソングといえば、もっとも有名で広く知られているのはペギー葉山さんの名曲『南国土佐を後にして』ではないでしょうか。この曲の中では伝統的な「よさこい節」が効果的に取り入れられており、今から50〜60年ほど前の時代背景を色濃く残す、まさに高知を代表する楽曲です。しかし、今回の配信では視点をガラリと変え、現代のJ-POPシーンにおいて今なお輝きを放ち続ける高知県出身のアーティストにスポットを当ててみたいと思います。
今回キッシー®︎が選んだ楽曲は、高知県出身のシンガーソングライター・岡本真夜さんが1995年に発表した記念すべきデビューシングル『TOMORROW』です。
高知県出身の歌姫といえば、広瀬香美さんと岡本真夜さんのお二人が現代の音楽シーンで非常に有名です。実は私、勝手にお二人の持つどこか甘酸っぱい青春のような雰囲気から、高知の名門・明徳義塾高校のご出身なのかなと思い込んでいたのですが、この企画のために色々と詳しく調べてみたところ、実は全くそうではないということが判明いたしました。ですが、明徳義塾高校の野球部の応援では、ブラスバンドが広瀬香美さんの楽曲や、岡本真夜さんが楽曲提供した作品を演奏するなど、実はとても深い縁と繋がりがあるのです。
また、この『TOMORROW』という楽曲は1995年の5月にリリースされたため、同年1月に発生した阪神・淡路大震災の被災者の方々へ向けた応援歌・励ましの歌というイメージをお持ちの方も多いかもしれません。しかし、エピソードを紐解いていくと、実は元々この曲はアップテンポな応援歌ではなく、静かなバラード曲として作られる予定だったそうです。それが結果として、誰もが口ずさめる前向きなアップテンポの楽曲となり、日本中を元気づける大ヒット曲となりました。岡本真夜さん自身が、高知での高校時代や青春時代に過ごした大切な思い出や情景が、この歌詞の裏側にはたくさん詰め込まれているのではないかと私は感じています。
配信の後半では、みなさまお馴染みのあの爽快なトーンで『TOMORROW』を心を込めて歌い上げます。「涙の数だけ強くなれるよ、アスファルトに咲く花のように」――明日の活力になるような力強いメッセージを、ぜひ受け取ってください。

It has become extremely hot here in the Kyoto region lately. Please be very careful when going outside during the day, stay hydrated, and take good care of yourselves. In last night’s stream, we had a wonderful time talking about the atmospheric vibes of Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture and my old memories of Furumachi in Niigata. Today, our “Local Song Tour Around 47 Prefectures” takes us to Kochi Prefecture in the Shikoku region.
When people think of local songs about Kochi Prefecture, the most famous and widely known is undoubtedly Peggy Hayama’s masterpiece, “Nangoku Tosa o Ato ni Shite” (Leaving Southern Tosa Behind). This song effectively incorporates the traditional “Yosakoi Bushi” and stands as a representative track of Kochi, strongly reflecting the historical background of about 50 to 60 years ago. However, for today’s stream, we are shifting our perspective to spotlight a Kochi-native artist who continues to shine in the modern J-POP scene.
The song I chose today is “TOMORROW,” the memorable 1995 debut single by singer-songwriter Mayo Okamoto, who hails from Kochi Prefecture.
When talking about divas from Kochi Prefecture, Kohmi Hirose and Mayo Okamoto are two of the most prominent figures in modern music. Actually, because of the bittersweet, youth-like atmosphere they both possess, I had always assumed they graduated from the prestigious Meitoku Gijuku High School in Kochi. However, after doing extensive research for this project, I discovered that was not the case at all! Even so, there is a deep connection, as the brass band of Meitoku Gijuku’s baseball team often plays Kohmi Hirose’s songs and tracks provided by Mayo Okamoto during their games.
Since “TOMORROW” was released in May 1995, many people associate it as a cheer song to encourage the victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that struck in January of that year. Yet, looking into its backstory, the song was originally intended to be a quiet ballad rather than an upbeat cheer song. Ultimately, it was transformed into the energetic, positive track we all know, becoming a massive hit that energized the entire nation. Personally, I feel that this song is filled with the precious memories and scenes of the youth and high school days Mayo Okamoto spent in Kochi.
In the latter half of the stream, I perform “TOMORROW” with that refreshing tone you all know well. “You can become as strong as the number of tears you cry, like a flower blooming on the asphalt.” Please receive this powerful message to boost your energy for tomorrow!
