八坂神社で奉告祭ののち、4メートルもの大松明に浄火を点じ、四条通を四条大橋まで神輿の通る道筋を清めていきます。

松明が八坂神社に戻ってくると、3基の神輿のうち素戔嗚尊（すさのおのみこと）をまつる中御座1基を担ぎ、四条大橋に渡ります。

外国人観光客は、沿道で祇園祭を満喫していました。

Following a ritual report at Yasaka Shrine, sacred fire is lit on massive torches—measuring four meters in length—to purify the route along Shijo-dori Avenue leading to Shijo Ohashi Bridge, which the portable shrines (mikoshi) will later traverse.

Once the torches return to Yasaka Shrine, the central portable shrine—one of three, and the one enshrining the deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto—is carried across Shijo Ohashi Bridge.

Foreign tourists were thoroughly enjoying the Gion Festival atmosphere along the route.
