Summer in Tokyo | Trendy Neighbourhood Kichijoji, Coffee Shops, Ceramics & Kitchenware Shopping

we’re back in Tokyo this week we’re starting the trip in the trendy neighbourhood of Kichijoji this area often tops Tokyo’s most desirable place to live and is a great place for shopping and dining with close proximity to Shibuya and Shinjuku starting with a morning coffee found this quiet local place the reviews of their coffee were really good too the coffee was rich and so delicious! highly recommend if you’re in the area now let’s go explore the neighbourhood Kichijoji is filled with these unique lifestyle stores they also had so many cute ceramics and kitchenware stores you can find some fun pieces here If you enjoyed Kappabashi, this area feels similar but a bit more modern this store is definitely for the cat lovers this store has a mix of Scandinavian and Japanese designs they had a mix of housewares, stationery, textiles & decor just love all the cute packaging I also enjoyed going through their fragrance selection lunch is Thai food even thought it was a weekday this restaurant was packed they have this popular lunch set where you can choose 2-5 of these dishes I got the five dish set everything was delicious, I can see why the place is so popular I was most excited to visit this antique ceramics shop this shop had such a good collection of vintage plates the prices were great too all the one’s out front were around 200-800 yen (1.50-5.50 USD) and the designs are really cute and there’s even more inside I wanted to take home everything highly recommend if you’re interested in Japanese ceramics another reason Kichijoji is so popular is this park it’s so nice to have a big park right in the middle of the city there’s also this shrine inside you can also rent boats here during spring these are all cherry blossom trees perfect place for a little break Kichijoji is also well known for it’s vintage stores there’s also many fun stores near the park it also kind of reminds me of Shimokitazawa the shopping street also has many nice kitchenware stores feels like a treasure hunt needed a snack after all the walking so refreshing this meat croquette is also a must try here there’s always a long line but it goes pretty fast took about 10 minutes it’s hot and freshly fried when you get it the outside is super crispy and the meat is so juicy I can see why it’s so popular I can see why this is such a popular neighbourhood among locals it just has such a good mix of everything without being overcrowded it’s always nice to be back in Tokyo 🙂 time for some dinner the menu is hamburg it seems to be very popular among locals they make the hamburg fresh in-front of you and you can cook it to your preference you need to try it with the egg yolk at the end they even give you a soft serve starting off at one of my favourite coffee shops they also roast their own beans here but most of all the cafe has the most interesting design it’s some kind of mermaid theme the coffee is great here as well you need to try the scones here if you come I’m headed to meet up with a friend today this pizza store has been quite popular recently they do handmade wood fire pizzas Japan usually has really good pizzas, so I have high hopes and the pizza is only cooked for a couple of minutes this tuna pizza was the most famous one you have it with some wasabi it was good but not sure if it was worth all the hype we’re in Ginza this is a preserved old apartments building which has been transformed into a collection of small shops and galleries you can find a lot of unique boutiques here feels like a slip back in time the old structure looks like something out of a movie I feel like each store has it’s own story and character most of the galleries were unmanned and you can just go in a see them apparently room 306 is left untouched by the last tenant so you can go in and see what it looked like in the past I think it’s well worth dropping by if you’re in the area now let’s go have some dinner today we’re trying charcoal-grilled chicken called Miyazaki jitokko the chicken is cooked in a special way over this charcoal the fire enhances the smokey flavour once it can bounce around like this it’s almost done and it also get this chard black colour it pairs really well with yuzukosho sauce and it’s quite fun to try cooking it yourself I this was my favourite meal on the trip. Highly recommend it if you want to try something new it was starting to rain pretty hard this is a pet friendly cafe that seems to be a cafe in the morning and a wine bar at night the interior is very clean and cosy nothing beats a ice latte on a summer day pure happiness 🙂 the cafe has a lot of vegetarian options as well this is the type of salad I’d want to have everyday and the weather is just perfect today this area is a popular spot to see hydrangeas and looks like they’re just in peak the shrine is quite small but perfect place to enjoy the quiet atmosphere once a year the Ajisai Matsuri (Hydrangea Festival) is held here behind the shrine you can also find this small hill full of Hydrangeas it’s closed to the public and only opens during the festival it looks so dreamy off to our next stop need to stay hydrated in this heat there’s actually a store I’ve had saved on my list for a while it’s a little bit out of the way but I had a bit of time to kill before dinner today this store is a space for Design, Art, and Sound you can find a well curated selection of books on art, photography and design the space feels more like a art gallery than a bookstore and you can look through the open books there’s even a second floor where you can find out more about the story behind the place but what I was most interested in was the LP selection you can find quite a wide range here there’s a mix of new and secondhand records and you can have a listen to the secondhand ones which was useful cause I like to listen to the full album before buying dinner is yakiniku this place has a all you can drink chu hai tap right at your table I’ve been craving gyutan trying this famous cake shop for dessert there’s always a huge line for this store the crepe cake was really good starting our day in Yoyogi Uehara this shop specialises in coffee and donuts there’s so many interesting flavours this is one of their signature donuts the latte definitely needed an extra shot the texture of to donut was so fluffy and soft it wasn’t too sweet but just right let’s have a walk around the neighbourhood I’ve only been to Yoyogi Urehara a couple of time there’s not much to do here but there are small cafes and izakayas tucked away here and there and is such a nice residential area it’s also a short train ride a way to Harajuku the weather’s so nice everything looks like it’s out of an anime I don’t really have much plans today I was just planning on shopping but decided to go for a walk first it’s a lot cooler here because of the tree canopy I always forget how nice the walk is inside perfect if you ever want a break from the busy city it’s time for a matcha this place is also popular for their matcha tiramisu going to go enjoy it on the terrace our summer trip is slowly coming to an end although I’ve had so much fun I’m also excited to go sleep on my own bed hope you guys enjoyed joining along

    2. 20:02 I saw a longer video on the Okuno Building by Cory May. It is a charming building but would take a large investment to turn it back to apartments. Given that it is in Ginza, I assume that some would simply tear it down to build a store or offices.

    3. I love how we all share our own version of Japan through our vlogs, it’s amazing to see different perspectives! I just started my own journey recently and feel so inspired watching creators like you. Thank you, Sol! ❤
