The grand Yamahoko Junko, one of the biggest highlights of Kyoto’s Gion Festival, took place on July 17. 🏮✨
Twenty-three magnificent festival floats, often described as a “moving museum,” traveled through the historic streets of Kyoto. Their elaborate decorations, traditional craftsmanship, and impressive scale captivated the crowds gathered along the route.
Among the most memorable moments was the spectacular Tsuji-mawashi, when the enormous floats were carefully turned at intersections using bamboo and teamwork.
This breathtaking procession remains one of Kyoto’s most iconic summer traditions and a powerful celebration of Japanese culture.

山鉾巡行だけではない。下旬まで華やいだ祭りが続きます。

優雅に辻回しをやってはる京都から、数十キロ西南？に行ったところでは角を直角に強引に曲がる山車が町中を激走している…。
たった数十キロ離れているだけやのに…。

今年は宵山に行きました。
でも動いてる山鉾も良いね〜。
