Japan Travel | Hachinohe, Aomori — Harbor Town & a Scenic Coastline

A gentle two days in Hachinohe, a harbor town on the Pacific coast of Aomori.

First, we head to Hasshoku Center, where we grill fresh seafood ourselves over charcoal.

The next morning brings one of the largest morning markets in the country — steaming bowls, salt in the air, a radio exercise drifting out in the old local dialect, the whole seaside market coming alive.

Then we follow the coast, and there it is, waiting: a shrine alive with circling seagulls, and a clifftop where the Pacific opens out as far as the eye can see.
